Who is Derek Chavez?
Derek Michael Chavez was one of the Production Supervisors and a dear friend and mentor to many in the 1923 family. On June 3, 1990, Derek Chavez entered the world in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He loved spending Sunday evenings with his family He was an avid sports enthusiast who had a special place in his heart for the Lobos, Lakers, and Cowboys. After graduating from Eldorado High School in 2008, he made his way into the film industry in New Mexico, beginning with an uncredited appearance in the drama series Crash (13 episodes, 2009) on Starz. After that, Derek appeared in about forty features, TV series, and shorts. His credits as a production manager and producer include The Host (2013), and Lone Survivor (2013). His latest work can be seen in the film “Finch (2021),” in which he was cast in the role of production coordinator. Since his role as the production supervisor on all ten episodes of “1883,” Derek has been a regular fixture in the Yellowstone narrative. Derek Chavez passed away on the 12th of January, 2023 (age 32) in the city of Albuquerque in the state of New Mexico. he leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Kristen and children Ava and Emmy. Although it was reported that Derek Chavez passed away from what is believed to be a heart attack, neither the Chavez family nor the production team for the show “1923” made the reason for Derek’s passing public. Since Derek’s passing in January 2023, a number of his present and former coworkers have expressed their condolences and offered their support to Kristen. Many of you are aware that title cards are a major way that television shows like 1923 pay tribute to people who have played important roles in the show’s history. It’s clear that he cares about the people Taylor Sheridan’s featuring on the show and isn’t using them for cheap entertainment. In the wake of Derek’s tragic passing, we would like to express our deepest sympathies to Kristen and the rest of the Chavez family.
