Jack teaches English and theater, and he has a lot of fun with his students. He goes to see whether Clara, one of his students, is okay because she seems distracted. His fiancee picks him up and kindly tells him he should have handled the situation with the students differently. He remembers he left his luggage in the theater, so he rushes back there. A self-immolation attempt by Clara on the stage. She begs him not to notify anybody as he struggles to take her down. She is pregnant, she says, and her devout parents will never accept it. She refuses to have the baby and would sooner die than have it.
Clara, have you been hurt? he inquires. She reveals that her pregnancy was the result of an affair with a football player called Richie. Shelly, his secret lover, is not telling him she is dating him. He advises her that she can choose from several different outcomes. They would find out she was adopted, she says. The night before, he couldn’t make it. About Dustin, she probes him. He says he’ll miss her family barbecue since he’ll be driving down with Dustin, but that’s a lie. They make fun of the fact that Jack would probably like sports because her family is so into them. They embrace each other and make light of choosing a wedding date. Clara is picked up by him in a remote region. She assures him that it’s fine to alter his mind at any time. On the road, she falls asleep. In order to determine whether or not she needs a medical operation, the doctor has suggested performing an ultrasound. While waiting for the doctor, he reluctantly fills out the paperwork and avoids answering any questions about his connection to the patient. Friendship is something he puts first. She’s seven weeks along, so they gave her a tablet to take now and another to take in 24 hours. Despite desiring surgery, she opts for medication instead. The physician has issued a severe bleeding warning. In response to her objection that she has class on Monday, the doctor advises her to carry extra pads. From the family barbecue, Britney calls in. He suggests they meet for dinner to discuss the matter further. She returns home after receiving the doctor’s explicit instructions. After thanking him, she gives him a bear hug. Jack and Clara discuss marriage on the drive back to their apartment; they also discuss how Clara’s mother met and married a Christian hardware shop owner. Her mother had a hard time after her father departed, but she is happy now. Britney enters the witness stand and vows on the Bible that her testimony is true. Jack lifts up Britney and gives her a big embrace when he gets back from New Mexico.
Other fabrications concerning Dustin are among the lies he tells her. In between giggles, she tells him the barbeque tale. Clara’s item was in his car, and she discovered it. Clara is asked if she is guarding someone by this man. The fact that she is shielding her stepfather from harm comes as no surprise. She claims that nobody will believe her since her mother’s reputation as a Sunday school teacher is at stake. He says he plans to notify the authorities. Clara tells him he should expect to be fired soon. He says he needs to report it. He dials Britney’s number and informs her that he must speak with her immediately. He claims that she will be late for a meeting. He looks up the law on his phone while waiting for her and learns that he is an accessory to abortion.
Britney leaves, and he finally reveals to her the truth about his pregnancy with Clara. Also, he accompanied her to a New Mexico clinic for the procedure. She claims that she would have been honest if given the opportunity. Jack informs her that she has decided to report the incident to the authorities. Before he can explain what occurred to her, the cops arrive and charge him with child molestation. Clara has been summoned to testify in court. She maintains that the depositions are true. She says she had a sexual encounter with Jack. Jack begs her to not lie in front of the judge. After hearing this, the judge orders his immediate dismissal. Britney apparently thinks he raped Clara, so she visits him in jail. His explanation is that he is her stepfather. The impact of his behavior on Britney is so great that she ends her relationship with Jack.

Every charge was dropped except for interstate transportation of a child. In Texas, he will lose his teaching license but not be considered a sexual offender. He attributes his success to Britney. British singer Britney Spears enters the courtroom, and the judge expresses his appreciation. They still care for one another, but she can’t forgive him for what he did. This is her exit.
