4400 Reboot Season 1 Episode 4 Recap
LaDonna and Dr. Andre continue their investigation, attempting to comprehend the returnees’ superpowers as well as the writing from Manny’s book. LaDonna is unsure if the footage she shared with Mariah made it into the public domain. Dr. Andre performs vitals checks on LaDonna both at rest and while creating an illusion. While she was employing her abilities, her heart rate slowed. The leaked video of Agent Tanner addressing her colleagues has gone viral. Jharrel wonders if this will help the returnees be treated better. Agent Tanner says that some of the returnees will be taken on day outings, but Jharrel dismisses this as another publicity trick. While Keisha and Soraya point out that the returnees are still shrouded in mystery, Agent Tanner’s main concern is whether or not they pose a threat to civilization. The 4400 are addressed by Keisha and Jharrel, who inform them of Project Reintegration. Dr. Andre asks to be one of the first to be released in order to see a modern medical center.
The four have already been chosen at random by the government, according to Jharrel: Isaiah Johnston (the Reverend), Shanice, LaDonna, and Claudette. Jharrel promises that if everything goes well, they would try to have everyone released. Dr. Andre is shown an unused space — the old hotel bar — where he can operate in peace by Jharrel. Jharrel tells Andre that putting him on the list for the next “day out” would be a top priority.
THROWBACK TO THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. Dr. Andre is at a party, bragging about his breakthrough in the treatment of bronchial infections. He dances with Cynthia, his love, and swears to stop working so hard. Soraya texts Keisha and Jharrel, suggesting she discovered something in the Belle Isle footage. They come to discover Soraya in handcuffs being carried away by the FBI. Keisha tracks down Agent Tanner and inquires about Soraya’s whereabouts. Agent Tanner explains that the leaked footage was on Soraya’s PC. Jharrel inquires about LaDonna’s and the Rev’s plans for their day off. The Rev agrees to LaDonna’s request to attend a library if he can also visit a church. Dr. Andre’s “office” is visited by Hayden and Millie. Millie demonstrates how she can remove Hayden’s ankle bracelet using telekinesis. Dr. Andre wants to put them through the same exams as LaDonna. Millie’s pulse is taken, and he notices she is missing a hand. Millie explains that she was born with that personality. Dr. Andre informs them about his background, which includes serving as a medic in World War I, running a clinic, and then investigating respiratory ailments.
FLASHBACK: Dr. Weavers discusses how he will take credit for all of their studies. Andre claims that he was the one who spent the most time in the lab, but Dr. Weavers tells him that he should be grateful that his name is even mentioned. Later, Shanice inquires of Dr. Andre about his knowledge of superpowers. He is irritated by his lack of independence. Shanice has no intention of seeing Logan or Mariah on her outing, but she is struggling with her emotions after only being married for two weeks. Jharrel is about to walk Claudette and Shanice out the door when he realises how crowded it is. He enlists the help of a guard to smuggle them off of the loading dock. Keisha is against it. LaDonna is looking forward to navigating the crowds, and the Reverend is as well. Shanice observes how much the city has changed while driving through Detroit. Claudette is enthralled by the futuristic city. They aren’t lying about the time they arrived, Keisha understands. Mrs. Grover is visited by Claudette, Shanice, and Keisha. Carla obtains some candid images of LaDonna and the Reverend at the library. Jharrel takes a step back and pulls her aside. She mentions that she saved his job, which he appreciates. He inquires as to why she abandoned her goals of becoming a journalist in order to become a sellout. She resents his assumption that she is unconcerned about others. Dr. Andre approaches Hayden and asks if he will agree to the easy tests. Hayden claims he despises being subjected to tests.
Dr. Andre takes his vitals as he experiences a vision of himself carrying flowers. Hayden seeks guidance on Mildred, whom he kissed for the first time. Dr. Andre and Cynthia dance at home in a flashback. Andre has taken his work home to keep his distance from Dr. Weavers. Dr. Andre is alarmed when Cynthia starts coughing. She tells him that nothing is wrong. The Reverend approaches Jharrel for assistance using the computer at the library. Jharrel demonstrates how to use Google to the Reverend. LaDonna has discovered a set of science textbooks that she has “illusioned” to resemble fashion mags. The Reverend discovers that his father has dedicated a new wing to his “dead” son. There’s also information on his son, Quincy Solarin. Mrs. Grover educates Shanice and Claudette on recent black events, such as the Obamas and Beyonce. Keisha advises the ladies against consuming alcohol, but Claudette refuses to listen. Keisha gets up and walks away to make a phone call. Mrs. Grover inquires about Claudette and Shanice’s knowledge of what has occurred to them and what they have been told. Mrs. Grover is informed by Shanice that some of the returnees have superpowers. Shanice tells Mariah about the vision she had with her. Mrs. Grover inquires about Claudette’s ability to see memories. Quincy Solarin, an outspoken opponent of conversion therapy, is interviewed by the Reverend. Keisha phones Jharrel and admits that everything appears to be normal. She notices Claudette burning her hand on a candle through the glass. Just before Keisha re-enters the room, Claudette shows Mrs. Grover how her hand is healing.
Andre continues to do simple tests on Mildred, but when he checks her pulse, things go awry: glass vials burst, and a small chandelier falls on Mildred, hurting her. Jharrel gives Dr. Andre space to do experiments, which Keisha finds disappointing. Jharrel is merely relieved that the outing went smoothly. Shanice, LaDonna, the Reverend, and Claudette all make a cameo appearance. Claudette is concerned because Keisha witnessed her quick recovery. Mildred’s fate is revealed by LaDonna. The four returns are approached by the other returnees, who greet them and ask them questions. Dr. Andre is confronted by Hayden, who is enraged by Mildred. As Hayden walks out the door, LaDonna walks in. Andre receives some outdated medical texts from her. One of them contains Dr. Weaver’s study. Andre informs Cynthia that she has been accepted into the human trials. Gustavo the rat is shown to her by him. The rat disgusts her, and she starts coughing heavily. He accuses her of being self-centered for refusing to help find a solution. She walks away, saying him she’ll be staying with her sister.
A burst of green light appears. Carla and Jharrel have a meeting. Carla acknowledges she is dissatisfied with the way the situation is being handled. The mayor has offered to assume charge of the 4400, but the federal authorities will not let it, she tells Jharrel. Carla and Jharrel believe that the feds must be aware of something they aren’t revealing. Hayden receives a bouquet of magnolias from Claudette to give to Mildred. This is the vision he had, he realised. Dr. Andre tells Shanice about his relationship with Cynthia in the past. He cured her, but in their final minutes together, all he could think about was work. Dr. Andre lets Shanice utilise her abilities on him, revealing his gender identity. Shanice and Andre exchange a kiss. Agent Tanner and Keisha meet. Keisha pours a drink for her girlfriend. Agent Tanner admits that the government allowed Claudette and Shanice out in the hopes that something would go wrong. They start making out after Keisha asks them not to talk about work. Dr. Andre notices a rat that resembles Gustavo. The rat makes its way beneath a wall. He notices that section of the wall is hollow and pushes it open. It’s a door that leads to a hidden location.
