9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 16 Recap
Chimney and Hen (Aisha Hinds) went out to look for rings. His closest confidant was a hen. She was a woman, and Chimney wanted a female perspective to help him decide what to gift Maddie. He also needed convincing that a proposal was the right move. Maddie is Chimney’s favorite. The family they established together is very important to him. Since they were already sharing a home, getting married was a natural next step in their relationship. If Chimney’s tax attorney hadn’t brought it up first, he might not have worried that Maddie would think his proposal was motivated solely by a desire to reduce his taxable income. For him, though, that was not the case. He hoped it wouldn’t be that way for her, too.
Hen was a good best buddy. She made Chimney sound great. She aided him in his ring selection. When they got back to the firehouse, he told everyone he was going to propose. The news made Buck (Oliver Stark) ecstatic. He was looking forward to formally adopting Chimney. The only thing everybody cared about was how he was going to pop the question. After putting Jee-Yun to bed, Chimney’s first idea was to just spring it on her. Eddie (Ryan Guzman) claimed that elaborate proposals were all the rage nowadays. Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody) continued by saying that his initial proposal was too simplistic. Chimney frequently engaged in grandiose displays of romantic behavior. No one wanted him to go the easy road with Maddie after his skydiving proposal experience. Later, Maddie picked up Jee-Yun from the firehouse. Everyone seemed strange around her. Chimney tried to explain that it was just one of those days, but she caught on.
Maddie had also invited him out to a meal, but Chimney had to leave when the fire alarm went off. Chimney and the other firefighters remained in the fire truck, discussing the proposal. Since no one else has ever planned such a grand proposal, they had no idea how big he should go. After learning that his then-girlfriend was expecting a child, Eddie quickly tied the knot. To make the adoption process more official, Hen got married. Even with Athena (Angela Bassett), Bobby (Peter Krause) did not do much. They were at a loss for how to respond to Chimney’s proposal. They simply didn’t like his other proposed solution. Later, they were called to help a woman who was supposedly gagging on her teeth. Tonsil stones were the actual cause of her distress. Her tonsil was so swollen that it was bleeding, and she had terribly bad breath as a result.
On the way to the hospital, Chimney stated aloud that he had made a mistake by proposing. He mentioned that Maddie’s last marriage wasn’t the best. She might take her time before settling down again. Hen didn’t try to persuade him otherwise, and he ultimately decided against making a proposal. Hen has a sneaking suspicion that Chimney is afraid to pop the question. Chimney, she surmised, was thinking back to when Maddie abandoned the two of them to raise Jee-Yun on his own. She thought that he still hasn’t fully recovered from that, and Buck was on the opposite side of the dispute. Buck was Maddie’s older sibling. He defended his sibling in a dispute. Hen’s suggestion that they give Chimney some attention for a change didn’t sit well with him. Buck told Hen that Chimney had forgiven Maddie and that they had resolved their differences once she had returned. Buck had gone to Hen in an attempt to persuade her to speak with Chimney into once again accepting his proposal, but Hen had refused. Chimney, Hen thought, felt like less of a priority because of the attention being paid to Maddie.
Hen explained why Chimney hasn’t popped the question for so long. They should wait to get married until their friend’s concerns were resolved, in her opinion. It was possible that Maddie shared their sentiments. No one stopped to wonder if Maddie would say no or if Chimney was truly delighted; they were too busy acting like the marriage was a done deal. When they were called away from the scene, Chimney had not yet returned the ring. Two roommates made the mistake of discarding an expensive item, and they later visited the dump in search of it. They had not informed anyone of their travel plans. They began shifting huge waste piles without considering how to keep them stable, creating a hazard that eventually buried them. It was a blessing that someone had seen what happened. They made a 911 call. The 118 squads quickly arrived.
Both guys were saved, but one of them is determined to keep fighting. He was so close to death, but he mentioned going back to the dump after he got better to look for the things he’d lost. Chimney was moved by the man’s account. He made up his mind that he should make his proposal official. One catch, though, prevented that from happening. He misplaced the ring, sort of. By the time Chimney went to his locker to look for his ring, it was long gone. He started to think his pals had relocated it on purpose to annoy him. No one admitted guilt. He asked Hen since he had noted that she hadn’t tried to persuade him to marry Maggie, and Hen had revealed that she didn’t approve of the match. She held off explaining her thinking to him until they were alone. The chimenea picked up her voice. As his best friend, he knew she was worried about him. But he assured her that, despite what Maddie had done, he forgave her. Hen’s wife was cheated on once. It took a while for them to get back on track. Chimney claimed that he and Maddie had become even closer and stronger as a result. They’ve resolved their differences. He simply had low self-esteem. It wasn’t Maddie he was having doubts about. Chimney was worried that he had dropped one of his rings.
They returned to the residence of the tonsil stones. They couldn’t find the ring. They, too, were taken to the dump. Someone who worked there had called the police on them since they couldn’t find it there. The appearance of Athena was a stroke of luck. Chimney thought it was a sign that Athena let them go as long as they discussed it. He postponed his proposal until later. But if he had merely gone home, he could have noticed that Jee-Yun was wearing the ring on her finger! Never once did he try to take it away from her before. And Jee-Yun was the one holding the ring the entire time. she removes the ring from its setting and places it on a bed in her dollhouse… When Maddie goes to pick up her daughter from daycare, she is completely oblivious to the event.
