A Million Little Things Season 5 Episode 7 Recap

In this week’s episode, Gary is getting ready for Inez, his dad’s sister, to arrive. Gary complains to Maggie that his aunt is just visiting because she has a box of stuff his father has been keeping for her and he doesn’t want her to meet her or baby Javier. Gary’s major complaint is that once his parents divorced, Inez should have stepped in as a surrogate mother for him. Instead, she just…went missing? Maggie jogs with Claire, implying that at least six weeks have gone by since the last episode. Javi naps. As it happens, Inez stops by their house. Despite her anger that Gary didn’t invite her to his father’s burial, she hopes that they may begin again.

She is ready to depart when she says she wants to know if he knows the cause of the fight she had with Javier Sr. If Gary doesn’t know, she fills him in: It was all because Javier let Gary legally alter his name, despite her strong objections. Gary’s father shared his views, she explains, but he wished to be there for his son at this challenging time. Javi starts crying at that very moment, and she is able to soothe him with ease, unlike Gary. There is more communication between them. She thinks it’s great that Gary gave his son the name Javier. She reassures him that he can learn Spanish whenever he wants, despite the fact that he doesn’t have to in order to be Mexican, and presents him with a book of Spanish children’s stories. Gary, who had previously held a grudge against Inez, now regrets his actions and suggests that they meet again so that Maggie can make a good impression. Claire started spilling breast milk during their afternoon alone. At the end middle of the episode, Maggie, through sobs, acknowledged that she thought she was losing out on important bonding with her kid because she couldn’t work as a nurse due to her breast cancer experience in the past.

When a member of the city council supports Regina’s plan to provide food for the homeless, she is overjoyed. But, she becomes irritated when the politician withdraws her support after a favorable TV news piece has already aired. Walter disappears after he takes Regina’s car keys and vehicle. He arrives at the school Rome currently works at, assuming it is several decades in the past and that he is responsible for delivering Rome home. Maddox suggests that Walter may have an infection of the urinary tract, which can induce dementia in the elderly, because of how often he’s had to urinate that day. Rome follows Sophie’s counsel and accepts his father’s alternate reality, leading to a tender moment between Rome and his father in the hallway before Rome and Walter return home.  Rome and Regina decide after dinner that it is no longer possible to have Walter stay with them and decide to look for retirement homes.

Throughout the next 30 days, Charlie will be staying at Eddie’s house. When the daycare center where Nicole’s son normally spends the day suddenly closes, Nicole steps in to help out by keeping the little girl. Even though Eddie understands that she is attempting to make apologies for the automobile accident that disabled him, he makes it plain that she is not required to go overboard in doing pleasant things for him, such as inviting him and Theo home for dinner. She admits her guilt and expresses a desire to mend fences by saying she’d like to be friends anyway.
