Janelle James portrays principal Ava Coleman on “Abbott Elementary.” James has been making millions laugh each week with her amoral escapades since the mockumentary sitcom about an underprivileged school in Philadelphia premiered on ABC in December. It’s impressive to realize that this is the stand-up comedian and TV writer’s first major network TV role after watching him hit every beat, joke, and look brilliantly.
