We Were the Lucky Ones is a limited series on Hulu that is based on a best-selling book by the same name about a Jewish family that goes through and survives the Holocaust. In Radom before the war, the Kurcs lived in peace but when Hitler became leader, everything changed. The family had to hide and then end up in concentration camps. Even though they were going through terrible things, some family members were able to run to the United States. The Kurds who lived through the war set out on a trip to find each other and get back together.
Is Addy Kurc played by Logan Lerman Based on a Real Person?
Yes, Addy Kurc, portrayed by Logan Lerman in the series “We Were the Lucky Ones,” is based on a real person. Characters in the series based on Addy Kurc’s real-life experiences during WWII and the Holocaust are created from his experiences. “We Were the Lucky Ones,” Georgia Hunter’s book, is based on the true story of what her family went through during this troubled time. Hunter was able to piece together the story of the Kurc family and their amazing journey of survival and strength by doing a lot of study and talking to family members.
Georgia Hunter’s great-grandfather, Eddy Courts, was a key figure in the Kurc family’s story of surviving the Holocaust and World War II. After the war, Eddy lived in Radom, Poland, as Addy Kurc. He was a musician and engineer. Eddy, like the series’ fictitious protagonist, was a Jew living during the Nazi government who was persecuted and had to hide to avoid capture.
Being a Jew during the war made things hard for Eddy under the Nazi government. He had to run away and hide to avoid being caught and sent to a prison camp. Even though he was in a lot of danger, Eddy made it through the war and was able to see his family again.
When the war was over, Eddy’s life took a turn that led him to Rio de Janeiro, where he met his wife. His events in the war, like losing family members and going through hard times, changed the way he thought about life and had a lasting effect on his family.
Logan Lerman‘s performance as Addy Kurc in the show is a moving ode to Eddy Courts and the millions of other people who suffered during the Holocaust. His character is a reminder of how strong the human spirit can be in the face of unthinkable hardship.
