Everyone is shocked by the demise of a local institution. Jeff Perry’s portrayal of Stanley who is more worried about a lunch meeting Eileen must join him and the paper’s publisher for lunch. Claire investigates the background to Rita’s selling. She finds out right away that Big Burger, a sizable fast food chain, has purchased the site and intends to open a location in the community. Claire is refused entry when she goes to meet with Rita, the proprietor. With Eileen and Roz (Grace Dove) pursuing Gloria Nammac’s companion, the investigation into the cold case of Gloria Nammac is beginning to deepen.
As Eileen and Roz begin to settle on a direction for the inquiry, they find out that their lead is about to begin work on an Alaskan crab boat out of Kodiak. The same stalker approaches Eileen as she enters the building where the newspaper is located after lunch with Stanley and the publisher. When she goes to confront him in the parking lot after a concerned citizen calls her at the office, Eileen is left wondering who the unidentified “fan” is. Even though Eileen and Roz are aware of Toby’s whereabouts, getting to Kodiak is difficult. Eileen and Roz ride along with Jamie (Joe Tippett) when he flies supplies to the town as a result of her one-night fling with Jamie. Toby reveals to the two reporters that Skeeter and Gloria attended an after-party the night before Gloria passed away. The town’s struggle for Rita’s Diner is still going on. The upcoming Big Burger will be discussed at a town meeting. While some attendees are happy about the change, many are upset about losing their favourite diner. Claire is left wondering what will happen once a brawl breaks out. The puzzle comes together when Rita’s diner catches fire, and Claire learns the truth. Rita is tired of her restaurant’s animosity and contempt. She decided to sell since she had the chance. Rita was compelled to set her own company on fire because the sale might not go through. Roz and Eileen concur on the strategy for telling the Nammac story, and they appear to agree on the next move. Tragically, the major character in Juna’s front-page story kills himself, leaving the young reporter in agony. While Eileen is left alone at a nearby pub, messaging Jamie, only to be ignored, Claire is writing up the narrative of a loss of civility and the casualty being a beloved business.
