American Crime Story Season 3 Episode 7 Recap
Monica Lewinsky, the young woman at the center of all of Bill Clinton’s problems. It’s about how a greedy press, an overzealous right-wing prosecutor, and joyous entertainment interact. It’s also about how a president lied about the nature of his relationship with that woman to practically everyone he knew. It’s also about how Monica Lewinsky’s friend who exposed and betrayed her was mocked almost as much as she was. It’s intriguing to see William Jefferson Clinton contort depending on the situation. He appears steely and self-assured when testifying in a deposition for the Paula Jones lawsuit, disputing the claims leveled against him. When the subject of Monica Lewinsky is brought up, though, his demeanor changes. He begins to stutter. Clinton is shown as digging himself deeper into the hole as his affair with Monica. He misleads Hillary, his wife.
His attorney Bob Bennett, his senior advisor Sidney Blumenthal (David Lynch mainstay Patrick Fischler), and his press secretary Mike McCurry are all lying to him (Scott Michael Morgan). His discredited pollster Dick Morris (Brent Sexton), who was also involved in a sexual-impropriety incident, is the only person to whom he thinks he can speak the truth. As the nation’s newsmen and comedians make her into a punchline, Monica retreats to her hotel suite at the Watergate with her mother. Linda Tripp’s transition into a national joke, similar to her erstwhile companion Monica, began with a brief flutter of press interest outside her front door. Linda tells her daughter Allison (Emma Malouf) about how she was bullied as a child. Linda had a buddy who could relate to her for a fleeting time, and she wasted it.
