The impact of Clinton’s romance with Monica Lewinsky becoming public was explored in Episode 8. It was 1992, and Bill’s 12-year affair with Ginnifer Flowers had just come to light. Hillary initially refused to do an interview, but after learning that it had already been decided without her, she agrees. Bill denies all allegations of an affair during the interview. Hillary, on the other hand, claims that it is a private affair. She goes on to say that it has little bearing on the country. . She claims to be with Bill because she adores and respects him. Hillary discovers that Bill’s approval ratings have improved after the interview. Meanwhile, the public’s opinion of her has shifted negatively. The year is 1998, and Monica Lewinsky is on her way to her father’s house in California. Hillary conducts an interview to Matt Lauer in which she once again supports her husband. . Monica returns to California and talks with her father before watching Marcia’s testimony on television. Ginsberg and Lewinsky’s father are at odds over the lack of an immunity agreement. Meanwhile, Starr, Bennet, and Emmick debate their options. Ken has devised a plan.
Before releasing Lewinsky, the FBI summons her again and takes her fingerprints and a writing sample. She is afraid of being arrested. But that doesn’t happen because her father hires a new lawyer and Ginsberg resigns. To make a deal, they all go to Ken Starr’s office. Monica will expose everything in exchange for immunity for herself and her family under this agreement. Meanwhile, Bill learns that Monica will be testifying and that a DNA sample will require her blood. He eventually agrees, and the test results show that they are compatible. Bill ultimately confesses to his wife afterwards. Hillary erupts in rage, accusing Bill of lying to her and accusing her of being an idiot for trusting him. As the former first lady, Edie Falco provides a memorable performance as she reacts to Bill’s continuing lies. She chastises him for putting their marriage in jeopardy for sexual fulfillment. Bill tells her there was never any intercourse, but Hillary isn’t interested in that. It’s breaking her confidence after she put all of her faith in him and worked together. Bill tries to persuade her to talk to him throughout the rest of the episode, but their marriage is beyond repair. She informs him that it’s simply a temporary arrangement at this point, and that neither leaving nor staying would be beneficial.
