On American Idol Season 21 Episode 17, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry were absent from their usual judging duties. The reason was that they were performing for the coronation of King Charles III overseas. And for our next episode, our characters have returned with a special souvenir – none other than the newly crowned King and Queen themselves!
In a stunning pre-taped segment introduced by host Ryan Seacrest, King Charles III, and Queen Camilla made a surprise appearance on “American Idol.” The scene begins with Richie and Perry situated in what seems to be a chamber within the walls of Windsor Castle. As if on cue, the regal figures of the King and Queen make their grand entrance.

“I just wanted to check, how much, how long you’ll be using this room for?” As King Charles joked to Richie. Charles then thanked Richie for attending and performing at the coronation. “Your performance was brilliant. Thank you so much,” he said with enthusiasm.
At the coronation concert of King Charles, we saw some of the biggest names in the music industry. Perry, Richie, Take That, and Andrea Bocelli have already been confirmed as the first acts to grace the stage. As the May 7 concert on the Windsor Castle grounds approached, anticipation was high for the upcoming performance by the talented singers. With a crowd of 20,000 eagerly awaiting their arrival, the stage was set for an unforgettable show that would be enjoyed by both the public and invited guests alike.
In addition to the cast, Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, singer-songwriter Freya Ridings, and classical-soul composer-producer Alexis Ffrench. Perry took to the stage and belted out her chart-topping hits “Roar” and “Firework,” causing even the young royals to bust a move from their seats. Richie’s performance elicited a standing ovation from the King and Queen Camilla.
