‘Barbie’ (2023) Movie Ending, Explained! Is there a post-credit scene in Barbie?

Greta Gerwig is the director of the American fantasy comedy Barbie, which was based on a screenplay that she and Noah Baumbach co-wrote. It’s the first live-action film based on Mattel’s Barbie dolls, who have been the subject of many animated features for home video and online streaming services. Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the film depicts two characters experiencing an existential crisis and embarking on a voyage of self-discovery. The film examines topics of self-discovery, identity, and how cultural expectations affect how people perceive themselves.

What happened in ‘Barbie'(2023) Movie?

Barbieland is portrayed in this Barbie movie as a matriarchal society where all the Barbie dolls are self-assured, prosperous, and independent, holding significant work positions while the Ken dolls partake in leisure pursuits. Barbie (Margot Robbie), the usual Barbie doll, is dating Ken, although she values her independence and relationships with others more than a closer bond with him.

In the middle of a dance party, Barbie has a sudden fear of dying and begins to alter physically, getting spots on her skin and hair. She seeks advice from the local pariah Weird Barbie, who tells her to go to the real world and find the youngster who is playing with her there in order to recover from her condition. Ken follows Barbie into the real world in stealth.

Barbie and Ken (Ryan Gosling) cause trouble and are frequently imprisoned after entering Venice Beach through a portal, attracting the attention of the Mattel CEO (Will Ferrell ) who wants them captured. Sasha, a tween girl who owns Barbie dolls, eventually tracks down Barbie and criticizes her for upholding unattainable beauty standards. Barbie understands that her existential crisis is being caused by Sasha’s mother Gloria, a Mattel employee. Gloria played with her daughter’s toys while going through her own identity problem.

Barbie travels to Barbieland with the aid of Gloria (America Ferrera) and Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt), where Ken has assumed control and implemented an oppressive patriarchal system, consigning the Barbies to subservient duties.  Following his return from the real world, Ken turns Barbieland into a repressive patriarchy based around horses. The Barbies forget all of their varied jobs and achievements, and they are now only there to fulfill the demands of the Kens, such as playing music for them or listening to them chat about movies.

In spite of their initial decision to leave Barbieland and return to their own reality, Gloria and Sasha finally decide to stay and fight for the Barbies’ freedom. The dolls revolt in response to Gloria’s stirring speech about the difficulties of being a woman, awakening them to the cruel system they are living in.

The newly awakened Barbies come up with a scheme to overthrow the Kens by pitting them against one another. They perceive the strength of other guys as a danger, which sparks a vicious conflict combined with a beach musical performance reminiscent of old Hollywood.  As a result of Gloria’s inspiration, Barbie organizes a scheme to force the Kens to battle each other, restoring their systemic dominance and preventing male dominance from being established in Barbieland’s constitution.

Barbie and Ken make up and own their faults, but Ken struggles to find himself without Barbie. Barbie exhorts him to develop a self-sufficient identity. Barbie, though, is still unsure of her identity and purpose. Ruth Handler as a ghost (Rhea Perlman), the co-founder of Mattel and the person who created Barbie, appears to her in a significant way. She says that Barbie’s story has no predetermined resolution and that her journey continuously develops, going beyond her origins. Barbie is moved by this realization and decides to change into a human in order to return to the real world.

But the movie’s voyage of self-discovery for the original Barbie has a profound effect on her. She wants to be a genuine lady in the real world since she can’t go back to her previous, upbeat state. Barbie’s creator, Ruth Handler (played by Rhea Perlman), unexpectedly shows up and leads her beloved creation into her new human existence, much to her astonishment.

Gynecology is Barbie’s first stop as a real woman, signifying her evolution and transition to a life apart from that of a plastic doll. Barbie, now going by the name “Barbara Handler,” is taken to her first gynecologist appointment in a later scene by Gloria, her husband, and Sasha, symbolizing her transition to human existence. After a hilarious and emotional voyage of self-discovery, the movie ends with Barbie embracing her ever-changing personality.

Is there a scene after the credits for Barbie?

Ladies and gentlemen, we are here to officially verify that Barbie does not grace us with a post-credit scene. In fact, there are no credits scenes to be found in her cinematic universe. So fear not, for you can confidently depart the theater the moment the movie concludes, without the slightest concern of missing out on any additional surprises.

But wait, there’s more! Barbie’s got some killer tunes playing during the credits, straight from its epic soundtrack. And get this, the first half of the credits showcase the actual dolls that inspired the movie, including the more eccentric ones like Growing Up Skipper with her mind-boggling inflatable breasts.
