“Tricky Legacies” is the title of the episode, According to the episode’s official synopsis, Things have changed. At the end of episode 4, We suddenly find ourselves in an alternate universe, transported to a vast, barren plain where a young man named John is engaged in a fistfight with his pal, Travis. This is reminiscent of past episodes of the season where Barry reminisced about his youth, except this time it’s his son. And so it is that long later, in a world considerably less crowded than Los Angeles, the downward spiral of violence once again begins.

In Season 1 Barry has a fantasy about him and Sally getting a family portrait with a little child. Okay, so let’s assume he did. What if we traveled forward in time eight years and found that they had a child? Just how would that manifest itself? When we find out what’s happening with these individuals next week. Let’s hope the ending will leave us with more than simply a sense of astonishment.

Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root), who is first blamed for Barry’s impromptu prison break, is shown being brutally tortured at the beginning of Barry. The scene’s intensity foreshadows the drama to follow. The story then moves on to Hank (Anthony Carrigan), who is attempting to figure out how to handle the aftermath of the botched murder attempt on Berkman. Cristobal Sifuentes (Michael Irby) soon reassures him that they are going to deal with it as a team, and the two deliberate on what to do next. After Cousineau leaks sensitive information to a journalist, he is taken to a safe house. His son thinks it’s a good idea and gives his blessing to the change. Cousineau becomes exceedingly paranoid upon hearing the news of Barry’s escape. Sally Reed (Sarah Goldberg) has a side narrative where she’s helping a new performing trainee get ready for his big break. She is having trouble making the switch from dramatic to commercial filmmaking, and ‘CODA’-fame director Sian Heder. Fuches earns the regard of his other convicts throughout the episode by remaining silent and not ratting anyone out. Meanwhile, a paranoid Gene fires his own son, and a frightened Sally confronts a beaten and exhausted Barry. Cristobal is being held hostage as Hank betrays him and uses his family’s power to eliminate the shooters. A powerful emotional reaction prompts the sad lover to finally break up with the reformed sociopath. However, the decision proves fatal as Hank’s assistance results in an instantaneous fatality. This effectively puts an end to their romantic saga. At the end of the episode, we flash forward to the future and see Barry, Sally, and their son settling down in a rural area. From the looks of things, they’ve moved on from their troubled past and are making a fresh start together.
