HBO was our OG entertainment hub even before Netflix came to life. However, they’re not really known for Christmas films because we have Disney for that (lol!). Well, truth be told, it’s not really the genre HBO is known for. But did you know that they have an excellent set of Christmas films? Since we’re only a few weeks away from Christmas, we’ve thought about sharing some of the top Christmas movies on HBO that you can add to your watchlist this upcoming holiday season. The best part is, that most of these films are widely available on different streaming platforms as well. So, all you need to have is a reliable wireless provider for a fast internet connection and a streaming device.
Without further ado, let’s begin with our Christmas movie list for this year!
Christmas Movies List on HBO
- A Christmas Story (1983)
A Christmas Story is that classic you just can’t help but love, and it’s been warming hearts during the holiday season for ages. It’s like a warm hug from your grandma, except it’s a movie! The story is about Ralphie Parker, who really wanted just one thing for Christmas – a Red Ryder BB gun even though everyone is warning him that there’s a big possibility he’ll just shoot his eye out.
This particular movie is the kind of Christmas film that can take you back to the good ‘ol Christmas we used to have. Well, we all know that Christmas hit differently when we were younger compared to the one we have right now. The best way to watch A Christmas Story is by the fireplace while sipping hot cocoa. It’ll definitely make you feel nostalgic.
2. The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017)
There’s something about this film that made it so special. It’s about Charles Dickens at his lowest point in life and how he found inspiration to create one of the most enduring stories in the history of Christmas, A Christmas Carol. Since The Man Who Invented Christmas is a relatively old film, it can be watched on many platforms like Netflix and Sling TV if you’re subscribed to any Sling TV packages.
3. Christmas in Connecticut (1992)
If you’re up for a 90s movie, Christmas in Connecticut is something you should watch if you haven’t seen it yet. The entire film revolves around Elizabeth Blane, a popular cookbook author and a star of a cooking show who’s known for her perfect Christmas celebrations. She already has a good fanbase who adores her for it.
The twist? She doesn’t really know how to cook. Things easily got out of hand when her boss asked her to host a live show on Christmas Day. Will she survive Christmas without the public knowing her dirty little secret?
4. Jack Frost (1998)
This heartwarming movie is something that many families can relate to while imparting one of the most important lessons in life: spend more time with your family while you still can. The story is about a musician named Jack Frost who has neglected his kid for many years. Unfortunately, he got into an accident and died just a day before Christmas.
A year later, while his son was building a snowman, his spirit magically took over, and the two started spending quality time with each other. It’s a good film, despite what many people would say. The movie runs 1 hour and 41 minutes, so make sure you have a stable internet connection. If you’re in a rural area, make sure your rural internet provider is reliable for smooth streaming over the holidays.
5. The Polar Express (2004)
Not a believer of Santa Claus? Watch this film as a brave young boy rides a steam locomotive known as the Polar Express. The train conductor told the boy that the train was traveling to the North Pole, and so he decided to climb aboard even with a slight hesitation in mind.
He wanted to know if Santa was real or not, and this was his way of doing so — by visiting Santa Claus’ so-called home. The boy will meet a lot of kids and other mysterious elements throughout his trip on the Polar Express
Final Thoughts
These five films are the cornerstone of the Christmas films we have today. So, if you’re in need of a little boost in your holiday spirit or just want to have a good movie lineup to watch after your Christmas dinner, you can never go wrong with these Christmas movies we’ve shared. Make sure to save this list and have a joyful Christmas!
