Billions Season 6 Episode 5 Recap

Prince recruits a new employee, removing him from his job as a charter school teacher and launching him into a new profession. Chuck Sr. has moved in with his son after being ejected by his wife for sending amorous texts to another woman, a move Chuck Jr. thinks would be temporary. Wendy is attempting to “restart” a Buddhist practice. Mike Prince Capital, where a new recruit is causing quite a stir. He’s a promising young man, and many of the firm’s founders want to know where they stand. How much will Prince have changed at the end of the quarter? There’s a twist here, though, because the kid is Scooter’s nephew, Philip. Scooter isn’t thrilled about his nephew working for Prince; he believes his nephew has the potential to do something bigger, better. Prince is also dealing with a public relations issue on top of the personnel changes.

At a Knicks game, his daughter Gail approached Governor Sweeney, accusing him of “ruining the city” by seeking to bring the Olympics here. If it were anyone else, Prince could just condemn the outburst and make amends with Sweeney, but he doesn’t want to publicly confront his daughter, especially because their relationship is already fragile. Rather, he convenes a family gathering. He tries everything he can to bring back memories for both of his girls, including cooking their favorite foods and playing music from their youth. They’re well aware that he’s pandering, but that’s part of his allure. Gail, on the other hand, refuses to apologize, claiming that they were raised to speak their opinions and that Prince should be proud that they learned it from him. After some thought, Gail decides that she should apologize to Sweeney, as she is a member of the family and shouldn’t be sabotaging her father unwittingly. As Prince dials Sweeney, she rushes to her father’s office and begins to compose an apology, but Prince slams the phone down. He sees that she was correct all along and that he can’t expect her to speak up only to have her retreat when it’s convenient for him.

Prince gets an idea when Gail says she’s astonished Sweeney was outraged in the first place, that a man with so much power could also be so vain and incapable of taking criticism. If the plans go through, he takes Sweeney to the site where the Olympic stadium will be erected and shows him a large neon sign that reads “Robert B. Sweeney Stadium.” Prince succeeds in appealing to the Governor’s vanity and regaining his support for the Olympic ambition. In this episode, Chuck also goes head-to-head with a lawyer in a case involving seafood that was mislabeled but nevertheless sold to consumers. To begin with, it’s about Chuck’s ego once again and hasn’t been in a courtroom in a long time, but he figures that now that he’s Attorney General, he can just walk right back in. He encourages the defense attorney to return to government practice. Chuck has a complete squad ready to take on Prince and the rest of the rich class after she accepts. Prince does shuffle some portfolios, and Bonnie storms out in anger, but he otherwise keeps the team together and working toward a shared goal, and Chuck manages to find someone to fill Kate’s shoes.
