Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 12 Recap
The episode starts with Bert Goodwin (GregAlan Williams), an old man with dementia, setting fire to his kitchen by accident. Bert refuses to live alone, even though he is sick, which makes his ex-wife Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) think about other ways to care for him.
At the same time, Dr. Marcel has a tough case with a young man named Colin who needs a liver surgery right away. But Colin gets an infection that makes it less likely that he will be able to get the transplant. Marcel and his team work very hard to take care of Colin’s illness and get him the transplant. This shows how emotionally hard it is for healthcare workers when things like this happen.
Maggie thinks she is being abused by her boyfriend, which brings to light nurse Jackie Nelson’s problems in a different plot. But it turns out that Jackie has been hurting herself, probably as a way to deal with the stress and pain she goes through at work and in her personal life.
Dr. Archer’s teaching methods are also called into question after he scolds a student, which causes Sharon to step in and Archer to apologize for his actions. Sharon has a health scare because of her diabetes, which shows how important it is for medical workers to take care of themselves.
At the end of the episode, Sully, who is getting treatment, and his wife Lynne, who suddenly goes into labor, are shown together. Though they are having a hard time, they have hope and are strong as they deal with their health problems.
In a moving moment, Dr. Ripley tells Dr. Asher about his past, which suggests that the two characters might be interested in each other romantically. Sharon decides to take care of Bert herself at the end of the episode, showing that she understands and cares about his situation.
