Makayla is being picked up by Adam from school. But the teacher quickly stopped him because his name was not on Makayla’s list of trusted guardians. Kim arrived after Adam informed her of the problem, but Adam was surprised to discover that it was Kim who had failed to include his name on the list while filling out the form. He got a call from Voight regarding the kidnapping of a seven-year-old child named Brianna before he could talk about it. After reviewing neighboring CCTV footage, the crew discovered that Brianna had been led out. To extend their search, the team compiled a list of local sex offenders and began questioning individuals at their homes.
However, one of the perpetrators, Charles Kalzenski, sparked suspicion when he was seen near Brianna’s house on security camera footage just minutes before she was kidnapped. He was also a minor pedophile, which raised his profile even more. The team tracked him down, and Adam discovered a painting of Brianna in his home, but he was nowhere to be found. As a result, they began looking for him and eventually found him in a document storage facility. Adam began questioning him about Brianna when he was taken into custody, but he maintained maintaining he didn’t know anything. He even tried to make Adam a suspect, but Adam was not convinced. Later on, the crew saw a video of a man forcibly removing Brianna, and he didn’t look anything like Charles.
When Adam understood that Charles was telling the truth and that he had pushed him too far, he went to inquire about the man, but Charles refused to answer. However, Voight instructed Adam to learn more about the man, which he did by speaking with Charles from the standpoint of a father. The squad eventually tracked down the individual, who turned out to be the same man they had questioned previously in the area. He took Brianna away because he was longing for a daughter after his daughter died seven years earlier. Adam and Kim tracked down Brianna and returned her safely. Finally, Kim assures Adam that she would not keep Makayla away from him. Meanwhile, Adam and Kim discovered that Makayla’s father’s uncle was covertly meeting with her and had petitioned for full custody of her.
