DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN (ISLE OF JOY): SEASON 1 EPISODE 8 EXPLAINED!

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 8, titled “Isle of Joy,” picks up right where things left off in the aftermath of Muse’s death. After the explosive events of Episode 7, the show shifts its focus to Benjamin Poindexter (played by Wilson Bethel), also known as Bullseye. The episode begins with a blue rose in focus—revealed to be in Poindexter’s prison cell. Locked away in protective custody for killing Foggy Nelson, Poindexter is now being moved into the general prison population, a decision orchestrated by none other than Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio).

FISK MAKES MOVES

Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk continues solidifying his grip on the city. Thanks to his newly formed anti-vigilante task force, vigilante crime is reported to be down 30%. This propaganda push is helped along by his assistant Daniel Blake, who bullied journalist BB Urich (Genneya Walton) into rewriting her coverage of Muse’s takedown—crediting the task force instead of Daredevil. Now, Fisk is preparing for a major gala to celebrate the funding of his Red Hook project, a political power play that also serves as a stage for his increasing dominance.

But before the party begins, Fisk unveils a personal secret to his wife Vanessa (Sandrine Holt). He takes her to a secluded location where he’s been holding her former lover Adam prisoner. In a chilling scene, he offers her a gun or a key, giving her the choice to either free or kill Adam. Vanessa chooses the gun. Her cold execution of Adam sets a darker tone for the couple’s future—and renders her therapy with Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) unnecessary. As Vanessa later tells Heather at the ball, “The sins of the past are dead and buried.”

MUSE MEETS HIS END – DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN EPISODE 7 RECAP

MATT MURDOCK UNRAVELS

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) isn’t having an easy time, either. After Heather’s brush with Muse, their relationship is in turmoil. Heather is writing a book on vigilantes but is now haunted by what happened, growing increasingly disillusioned with masked heroes. Murdock, still keeping his Daredevil identity secret, tries to defend the very persona Heather now blames. When Buck Cashman, Fisk’s enforcer, drops by to invite Heather to Fisk’s gala, Matt becomes suspicious of her ties to the mayor.

Professionally, Matt’s partnership with Kirsten McDuffie (Nikki M. James) is cracking. During a tense meeting with a client, Murdock lashes out, prompting Kirsten to question whether he still believes in the justice system. Matt admits he’s losing hope: “We’re not serving justice here. We’re babysitting chaos.”

A RETURN TO HELL’S KITCHEN ROOTS

In a nostalgic moment, Matt visits Josie’s Bar—a key location from the original Netflix series. Josie (Susan Varon) welcomes him in, joined by Cherry (Ayelet Zurer), who has been watching over Matt on Kirsten’s request. It’s here that Matt remembers something Foggy said the night he died—about prematurely celebrating a court win dependent on a crucial testimony. This prompts Matt to wonder if someone had him silenced before he could win the case.

Determined to uncover the truth, Matt visits Poindexter in prison. He demands answers—why Foggy was killed, why Fisk moved him to general population. But Bullseye stays silent. Furious, Matt slams his head into the table and frames him for the violence. The brutality plays into Poindexter’s plan.

POINDEXTER ESCAPES

Later, as Poindexter receives medical treatment for his injuries, he seizes his chance to escape. In a terrifyingly precise attack, he spits a tooth into a guard’s eye and finishes off his captors with brutal efficiency. Dressed in a guard’s uniform, Bullseye walks right out of the facility.

His destination? Fisk’s gala.

THE GALA: WHERE EVERYTHING CONVERGES

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN (ISLE OF JOY) Bullseye Gala

The black-tie gala becomes the focal point of Episode 8. Fisk uses the opportunity to bring key figures into his inner circle. He pressures wealthy investors like Jack Duquesne (Tony Dalton) to support his Red Hook project. Meanwhile, Officer Powell assaults a waiter trying to take Fisk’s photo, and even NYPD Commissioner Gallo (David Meunier) realizes he can’t control Fisk’s task force anymore.

BB Urich plays both sides—acting friendly with Daniel Blake while secretly working under a pseudonym to expose the corruption. She later informs Gallo of her plan to publish the truth.

Murdock arrives at the gala fashionably late, much to Heather’s dismay. He’s ready to expose Fisk and protect Heather from being used as a pawn. In an intense confrontation, he accuses Vanessa of orchestrating Foggy’s murder. “I know it was you,” he tells her. “I just don’t know why.” Vanessa deflects and turns the conversation around: “Does Heather know you’re Daredevil?”

Just as the truth is about to unravel, Matt hears the distant click of a sniper rifle—Poindexter is ready to strike. In a split-second decision, Murdock jumps in front of the bullet aimed at Fisk. The shot hits him.

THE AFTERMATH: BLOOD ON THE FLOOR

The scene erupts in chaos. As the crowd flees, Fisk holds Murdock’s bloodied body in his arms. Heather rushes to her boyfriend’s side, terrified. The lighting shifts to red, and the episode fades out, leaving Murdock’s fate uncertain.
