In the most recent episode of Season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the queens competed in a tough maxi task that put their creativity and comedic skills to the test. Let’s talk about everything interesting about Episode 12.
Drag Race Season 16 Episode 12 Recap
At the beginning of the episode, Morphine Love Dion said that they would be in the bottom two, which sadly came true. When Morphine was paired with Q for the maxi challenge, which required them to create and market their own bathrooms (yes, you read that right), she was worried that Q’s bad mood would affect their performance. Q was still angry about not winning last week, which made this fear even worse. Even though Morphine tried hard, the judges thought Q was more interesting than her, so she ended up in the bottom two.
In the lip sync battle, Morphine and Dawn performed to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Body,” a fast-paced song that called for fierce performances. Even though Dawn tried hard, the song choice seemed to play to Morphine’s strengths, giving her a big edge right away. With every move and lip sync, Morphine took over the stage with confidence and charm, making it hard for Dawn to keep up. Even though Dawn was determined, Morphine’s electrifying performance earned her a spot in the race and brought her one step closer to becoming America’s Next Drag Superstar.
At the same time, things were getting worse between Q and Sapphira, and Q felt like he was “Janned,” which was a reference to how Jan was treated in a previous season. Even though trouble was building, the ending of the story between Q and Sapphira was pretty calm and consisted of a discussion about word choice.
Teams had to come up with bathroom-themed ideas for the maxi task itself, which showed off a variety of performances. Q and Morphine’s idea for “Hell” didn’t work because it lacked balance and a funny punch. The idea of Dawn and Nymphia’s “Museum of F.Art” was interesting to look at, but it lacked energy and funny moments. Plane and Sapphira, on the other hand, really stood out because they had great jokes, teamwork, and characters.
The queens looked beautiful in chains as they walked the runway, showing off their creativity and style. Nymphia’s outfit stood out because it mixed the strange and the glamorous, and Sapphira’s bold fetishwear-inspired outfit made heads turn.
At the end of the episode, Sapphira and Plane were crowned winners, surprising the judges with how well they did in the task. At the same time, Dawn and Morphine competed in a tense lip sync fight. In the end, Morphine made it to the top five. It’s getting tougher for the surviving queens to show that they have what it takes to be America’s Next Drag Superstar.
