In the fourth episode of Elsbeth, the focus changes to a love story that starts out sweet but ends in tragedy with murder. Beginning with a look into the lives of the rich and famous, the episode shows the dark side of relationships that don’t work out. Gabriel Erwood, also known as Dennis Pagano, the victim, is a good-looking guy from Teaneck who is played by Ryan Cooper. When he falls strongly in love with his wife Lainey Belfort (Paloma Garcia-Lee), he changes his mind about the planned divorce and their marriage.
The episode gets more exciting when Gabriel’s partner, actress Retta as celebrity matchmaker Margo Clark, chooses to handle things herself. She kills the horrible person with a metal statuette of Cupid because she is greedy and wants to stay in charge. The agents, Elsbeth and Officer Kaya, quickly figure out that Margo is the most likely person to have done it. Even though Margo tried to hide her tracks, Elsbeth’s sharp observation and Officer Kaya’s smart conclusions helped them find the truth.
While the investigation is going on, Elsbeth also looks into a different plot involving Captain Wagner and his wife, Claudia Payne (Gloria Reuben), who run a charity. Like Margo, Elsbeth is interested in Claudia’s charm and beauty, and she also admires Margo’s confidence and drive. At the end of the show, Elsbeth and Margo have a tense argument, and Margo is finally caught and sent to jail. At the same time, Elsbeth’s interest leads her to find out about a possible crime involving Captain Wagner, which sets the stage for future episodes.
