EVE LINDLEY JOINS JANE CASEY MODDERNO’S ‘HERE FOR THE WEEKEND’ ROM-COM

Jane Casey Modderno is best known for her work on the horror shows “The Birch” and “The Girl in the Woods.” Her new project is a big change in genre. Modderno is a writer and director from Los Angeles. Her latest screenplay, “Here for the Weekend,” is her first work in the comedy genre, which she thinks has a lot in common with horror.

“HERE FOR THE WEEKEND,” Jane Casey Modderno‘s Sundance Institute fellow project, is getting a lot of attention. She was one of many storytellers who took part in the recent 2024 Sundance Screenwriters Labs. It was one of only a few of 4,000 submissions chosen for the 2024 January Screenwriters Lab.

The Sundance Institute Comedy Fellowship was given to Jane Casey Modderno, showing how important she is becoming in the movie business. Modderno said, “The Comedy Fellowship was given because the script is funny.” The main goal of the fellowship is to help get the project going by giving some initial funds to research and develop the film more.

“Here for the Weekend” is a romantic comedy that takes place at a resort in Palm Springs. The story is about Cherry, a transgender resort manager . She is starting her own lingerie line while also taking care of her mom, two other trans girls, and herself. Cherry is complicated because she can’t ask for help, even though she wants to give up control. She tries to get a flirty guest to fall in love with her, which could help her fashion career. But her goals could put an end to the close-knit gay family she has made at the resort. Modderno’s work, inspired by the influential cinema of Federico Fellini, aims to bring a fresh, authentic perspective to the romantic comedy genre.

Eve Lindley will play the lead role in “Here for the Weekend” She has been in movies like “Dispatches from Elsewhere” and “All We Had.” The drama about LGBTQ+ people is set to start filming on November 1 and be done in a month. As a proud trans woman and well-known actress, Lindley gives Cherry a lot of depth and realism.

In a recent interview at the Sundance Film Festival, Modderno talked about her background and how she went from making scary movies to making funny ones. She talked about how timing, tension, and changing what people expect are important in both genres, which makes the change seem more natural than it might be.

Modderno draws inspiration from filmmakers like Fellini, whose “Nights of Cabiria” influences the structure of her film. Like Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson, she wants to combine realism with an over-the-top, impressionistic camera style. The movie will have parts of a buddy hangout movie and parts of a high-concept fantasy movie. It will treat intimate scenes with choreographed precision like “Basic Instinct.”

Currently, “HERE FOR THE WEEKEND” is in the packaging process. Modderno is trying to get attachments with well-known actors who work with production companies. The story, which was created with help from Charlie Pollinger, has grown into an ensemble piece like “Dazed and Confused” or “Nashville,” with a seduction taking place at a resort.

Modderno’s talent lies in her ability to bring depth and nuance to her characters, making her a sought-after actress in both comedic and dramatic roles.
