FBI: International Season 1 Episode 12 Recap
The episode was picking off just where we left off, Forrester was astounded when his mother reappeared in his life after so long asking for assistance. Forrester was unconcerned about her reasons since he had been too preoccupied with his mother abandoning him for half his childhood. She requested that he obtain a file for her, and Forrester questioned whether she was nuts for requesting that he obtain something from the FBI vaults. When Andrea tried to flee, Forrester drew his revolver, but she simply replied she loved him and walked away. In Frankfurt, a guy was confronted by his next-door neighbor Federick, who suspected him of knowing a secret. The man shot Frederick in the back as he walked away. When the rest of the crew heard Forrester ranting on the phone and learned about his breakup with Kellett, they were shocked. Tank, too, appeared thrown, but when Forrester announced they had a case, he pulled himself together. Michael Vestal (Gabriel Olds), the CEO of a prominent anti-virus software company, was the assassin. When his partner tried to force him out of the company and fled to Germany, he was suspected of murdering him. He remained online, though, claiming to be a victim of persecution.
Given that they had video of him shooting his neighbor, that rang hollow. Kellett questioned Forrester on the phone as well, but he dismissed it. Jaeger was overjoyed to be investigating a case in her homeland, introducing them to Detective Kripo Adler (Jeremy Xido), who revealed with chagrin that Vestal had helped the police department, among other causes. Vestal was short on cash due to the DOJ’s asset freeze, which explains his small flat. Lena (Xenia Kitzmann), the victim’s widow, was taken aback when she learned that they’d been living next door to a fugitive and that her husband didn’t know the truth about Vestal. Vestal’s room had a slew of equipment that he’d utilised to obscure his digital imprint, as well as a book that looked like it belonged to a mistress. They followed a lead to a security firm owned by Harold Pesch (Alexander Devrient), who claimed he had been contacted for cash by “Thomas Smith,” accepted it, and only realized who he was through the news. Vestal had used his laptop, which he provided to Vo.
Vestal posted a video alleging he was being framed by the FBI and the German government, along with photos of Forrester and Kellett, as the squad sought him down. He boosted the morale of his supporters. It is the team that is being pursued. This infuriated Forrester and Kellett, especially because Kellett was already under fire. Forrester was concealing something, but Kellett swore it was nothing. Raines was able to create a pair of fakes over the internet. Vo deduced the location of Vestal’s video, which Adler recognised as a local tattoo establishment. Jaeger took the initiative and spoke with the tattoo artist, who relayed Vestal’s message that if he died in captivity, the world would believe he had been murdered. Jaeger acted like a true “bad policeman,” threatening to remove the woman’s piercings if she didn’t talk about Vestal. Forrester and Kellett followed the trail to a nightclub, where they quickly became embroiled in a brawl with some clients, which Kellett broke up at gunpoint. Forrester was perplexed as to why Vestal would be playing a game with them; Kellett thought the man was simply addicted to the attention.
Pesch admitted that he had just made a significant deal that may make him millions of dollars, but that it would be ruined if word got out that he’d hired a killer. He’d known who Vestal was for a long but kept silent out of desire to get his company noticed. Vestal was in town in the hopes of collecting his portion of the sale, which the team knew because Pesch would have kept it quiet for such a large financial transaction. Vestal had killed his last partner and had a plan to pay him off, but he had no idea. For the “payoff,” the crew urged Pesch to meet Vestal at a park. Vestal had recently broadcast another video, according to Vo, implying that Pesch had warned him in the hopes of saving the agreement. They were confronted by a mob of Vestal’s followers while they were transporting Pesch before Jaeger and Adler arrived to save them. With Vo learning that someone was filming Vestal in these tapes, Forrester was still perplexed as to why Vestal killed his neighbour. Finally, Kellett deduced that Vestal had been having an affair with Frederick’s wife, Lena, and that this was the underlying motive for the murder.
Vestal was discovered in Lena’s trunk after she was apprehended at a checkpoint. Federick was “boring,” Lena stated, and she was swept up in the excitement of an affair with Vestal. Adler was amused by the Frankfurt police department’s decision to release their own video of Vestal’s detention. Kellett advised Forrester to be cautious as the team left. Forrester discovered the file in Budapest and handed it over to a counter-intelligence operative. As he prepared to meet his mother with the agent, he wore an earpiece. Forrester understood there had never been a file, and the whole affair had been set up to catch Andrea off guard. As he waited on a bridge, Forrester noticed his mother approaching him and managed a small shake of the head. Andrea walked right by him after noticing the warning, leaving Forrester alone, torn between duty and family. As bizarre as the case was, the drama was Forrester trying to figure out which side his mother was on…and which side he would have to pick.
