Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 7 Recap
‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Season 8 Episode 1 Recap
In the season 8 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, titled “Remember What They Took From You,” Morgan and Madison set sail for PADRE to try and protect Morgan’s abducted daughter, baby Mo. PADRE is an island settlement that has been processing the passengers of the rafts that Alicia delivered to the island. Morgan is encouraged by PADRE to follow in Madison’s footsteps and become a Collector, bringing youngsters to the island so that they might “build something better” in the future. Morgan and Madison escape the island, but Madison stays behind so that Morgan can save Mo.
Young islanders are learning to defend themselves against the zombie hordes. A young girl known only by her code name, Wren, freezes up during training after recalling a nightmare about a swamp full of walkers. In the future, while doing housework, Wren brings oxygen canisters to a cell housing just Madison, alias “Lark.”
Madison is desperate to die, but Shrike is taking blood from her every week to keep her alive despite her wishes. Wren secretly visits Madison in her cell to instruct her in the art of zombie killing. Madison sees a scar on Wren’s wrist when she finally manages to take her down. The girl has owned this one since she was a little girl. Madison understands that Wren is Mo and that it has been seven years since she took the infant to the island and assisted her in making her getaway with Morgan. After Madison and Wren successfully hijack a speedboat and reach the mainland, Wren attempts to escape from her kidnapper-turned-rescuer in order to get back to PADRE. Madison and Wren enter the marsh, and Morgan follows.
Morgan and Madison had a disagreement while traveling to meet PADRE; he believes Wren is better at PADRE, while she spent seven years in prison to be with Morgan. People from PADRE radioed “Nightingale,” ordering him to bring in the baby but to get rid of “Lark” since she was a threat to the community. Morgan has second thoughts about killing Madison, but not doing so could prevent Wren’s comeback to PADRE. The only way to get away from the zombies is through the marsh. Seven years ago, Morgan took Mo and fled to a houseboat in a swamp full of walkers.
Morgan admits that he reached out to PADRE that night to have Mo rescued. There were too many walkers for them to kill, and they were dragging them down. Wren still thinks about what happened that night. She recalled the advancing horde of zombies. Morgan’s apology stands out in her mind. I figured this might fill a void for you. Why? Because I care about you and want to help you out. She recalls that he sacrificed himself by handing her up to PADRE. She recalls her father being left behind in the marsh to defend the family from the walkers.
Morgan and Wren make a break for it through the muck, and Madison stays behind to distract the walkers. Morgan and Wren are stuck in the muck as swamp walkers approach Madison. They can’t count on PADRE to come to their rescue now. Madison is in danger of being ripped apart by teeth as the walkers are ripped apart by gunshots. Grace, also known as Heron, is at the helm of a rescue vessel in response to PADRE’s radio transmissions. Grace explains that she has been working for PADRE to maintain radio towers after revealing that she is Mo’s mother. Wren remembers hearing her voice on the tape before she ever got on the boat. Wren’s desire to return to the mainland wasn’t motivated by a desire to avoid fighting carrion. She did it for her mom and dad.
Morgan rescued Mo seven years earlier when he phoned PADRE, and Mo now knows that Morgan nearly lost his life bringing her back to her family. That PADRE said her parents were too self-centered and unwilling to make sacrifices for her safety was a falsehood. “But you did before,” she adds. “And you just did that just now.” Mo hopes that Madison will assist the other youngsters who Mo has “rescued” for PADRE. Together. Morgan and Grace explained to Mo (Wren) that PADRE can safeguard her in ways they cannot because they are not Mo’s biological parents. Isaac and Rachel were her parents, and they passed away many years ago. They forced me to swear that I would look after you. And I’m doing that too,” Morgan says to Mo. This is why you’re returning to PADRE, right?
At the coast, Shrike and the guards bring Wren and Lark back to PADRE. Madison is still useful to them. Shrike tells Morgan he’s leaving his position. Morgan loses his job as a member of the collective as PADRE takes Madison and Mo away. Morgan and Grace are grieving the loss of their daughter for the second time. PADRE has too much interest in Wren to let her run across her father again. When Wren returns to the island, PADRE informs her that she will soon play a “crucial role” in the development of the community. She assures PADRE that she is not too young to safeguard the future he is creating. There is absolutely no need for alarm. Wren uses a sledgehammer as a weapon to dispatch Carrion with a single hit inside the training cage. Mo cracks a wry grin. Fearless.
