A new tale of succession is seen in the trailer for the first season of House of the Dragon. The new series, which stars Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Paddy Considine, tells the story of a civil war that tore apart Westeros 150 years before the events of the first season.
Today, HBO has released an official trailer for the first season of House of the Dragon, and yes, it’s every bit as spectacular as you’d expect it to be. Based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is co-created and co-executive produced by Ryan Condal (Colony) and Miguel Sapochnik (Finch). Did you really think that the Game of Thrones franchise would deliver anything else?
There has never been any doubt, even from the very beginning, that this show would be met with a significant amount of interest and enthusiasm. On the other hand, we were never entirely sure how the story would play out or what it would be about on its whole. We were aware that it took place 150 years before the events of the GOT, and now the roles of the various players are beginning to become more transparent.
Emma D’Arcy will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, a young woman who is determined to sit on the Iron Throne despite though no woman has ever done so. The concept that this is now HBO’s second major show about an all-powerful man seeking to arrange a succession plan is amusing, and King Viserys Targaryen is determined to pick the right heir. The realm of Rhaenyra is not Waystar Royco, and Shiv Roy is not Rhaenyra.
The role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, a young woman who is focused on sitting on the Iron Throne despite the fact that no woman has ever done so before, is slated to be played by Emma D’Arcy in the next production of House of the Dragon. There is a good deal of comedic potential in the idea that this is now HBO’s second big drama about all guys trying to establish a succession plan. King Viserys Targaryen is determined to choose the right heir, and there is also a good deal of comedic potential in the idea that this is now HBO’s second major drama.
On the show, D’Arcy is supported by a fantastic cast. The teaser makes it quite clear that dragons will play a role in the game, and it appears like the majority of the plot will eventually revolve around the civil war. We sincerely hope that fans of Game of Thrones would at least give this show a shot; there are opportunities here to at least show that the franchise is looking to avoid what went wrong in the first installment of the series. Keep in mind that this is a different creative team from before.
