Daniel was a passenger on the doomed flight that took off on October 12, 1972. He and the other people on board began a trip that would change the course of their lives forever. On February 12, 1946, Daniel Fernández Strauch was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. At the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, he attended classes with Coche Inciarte and his cousin Fito Strauch. A relative of his, Eduardo Strauch, had pushed him to go to Chile with them at the last minute.
Along with Daniel Shaw, the cousin of his two deceased cousins, he was traveling with his two cousins Eduardo and Fito Strauch. Daniel was unhurt when the plane crashed. He was among the more senior members. Captain Marcelo Pérez del Castillo died in a storm on October 29, 1972, and Daniel and the Strauch cousins had to take over as leaders. One of their jobs was to pick bodies to eat, which showed how far they had to go to stay living. Things went better on the survival trip when Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa went on a dangerous expedition through the mountains.
