Who is Daniel Fernandez Strauch?

Daniel was a passenger on the doomed flight that took off on October 12, 1972. He and the other people on board began a trip that would change the course of their lives forever. On February 12, 1946, Daniel Fernández Strauch was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. At the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, he attended classes with Coche Inciarte and his cousin Fito Strauch. A relative of his, Eduardo Strauch, had pushed him to go to Chile with them at the last minute.

Along with Daniel Shaw, the cousin of his two deceased cousins, he was traveling with his two cousins Eduardo and Fito Strauch. Daniel was unhurt when the plane crashed. He was among the more senior members.  Captain Marcelo Pérez del Castillo died in a storm on October 29, 1972, and Daniel and the Strauch cousins had to take over as leaders.  One of their jobs was to pick bodies to eat, which showed how far they had to go to stay living. Things went better on the survival trip when Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa went on a dangerous expedition through the mountains. On December 22, 1972, Daniel and the other survivors were finally rescued.

Following the mishap, Daniel Fernández wed Amalia and gave birth to three kids. In the business sector, he oversaw a significant Montevideo computer and technology company. He didn’t want to talk about what happened at first and kept quiet for 30 years because he thought no one would want to hear about the tragedy. But Daniel’s life changed dramatically when he went to the crash site for the 30th anniversary and saw that it was covered by media around the world. He realized that people were interested. Since then, he has become a public speaker and talks about his unique experience of surviving in the Andes. Daniel has decided to be open about his experiences because he knows that they can help and inspire other people. He actively takes part in events that honor the survivors.

When Bayona was doing research for his 2012 movie “The Impossible,” and found Vierci’s interesting book. The director was so moved by the survivors’ stories that he or she recorded over 100 hours of interviews to make sure the film was true to the events. Daniel has been there every step of the way, from the release of the Netflix movie about their experience to the deaths of other survivors, showing how dedicated he is to keeping the memory alive. Actor John Cassini portrays Daniel Fernández in the 1993 film “Viven!” Francisco Romero, an actor from Argentina, plays Daniel Fernández Strauch in J.A. Bayona’s film “Society of the Snow”.
