Gaslit Season 1 Episode 3 Recap
Martha tries a variety of methods to notify someone of her predicament. She attempts unsuccessfully to summon a maid on a balcony and other vacationers. When Martha eventually sees a newspaper report on Watergate, she notices that it involves McCord. Winnie McLendon, a reporter friend, is contacted to help her get more material. Peter cuts the phone cord and physically assaults Martha in the hotel room before she can finish the call. Martha eventually collides with a glass table and is severely hurt by the shards. That doesn’t stop Peter from giving her a sedative and putting her to sleep until John arrives. G. Gordon Liddy and Howard Hunt did not, as they assumed, destroy all of the records. Howard Hunt has some paperwork containing very sensitive information in a safe at the White House. John Dean is tasked with destroying the records. Hunt couldn’t recall the combination to his own safe pass for several minutes.
The men have finally cracked the code. However, the FBI assigns Agents Lano and Magallanes to investigate the Watergate burglary while all of this is going on. They connect G. Gordon Liddy to the crime and recognize who they’re working with within the great scheme of things after ruling out the possibility that someone intelligent was behind the burglary. During the Nixon administration, L. Patrick Gray was the Director of the FBI. When Dean is unable to obtain the documents he needs from the White House, he convinces Grey to assist him. If Dean’s tactics to influence Grey sound familiar, it’s because Mitchell used the same tactics to get Dean to join on to help with the scandal in the first place. While Grey’s purpose is accomplished, Dean recognises that the FBI director can serve in a different manner. With the FBI just beginning their investigation into the Watergate burglary, Dean can utilise Grey to put a stop to their spying in the hopes of keeping himself and the other Watergate participants clear of suspicion. With Mitchell out of the game due to his resignation, Dean now stands to lose everything as the man in control.
