The next episode of GRANTCHESTER, Season 9 Episode 3, will introduce a new priest named Alphy Kottaram, who is played by Rishi Nair. This episode, directed by Katherine Churcher and written by Daisy Coulam, features Alphy and Geordie Keating (Robson Green) investigating a murder in the area. It offers new characters and interesting plots.
Tom Brittney said that he was leaving his favorite role as vicar Will Davenport on the show GRANTCHESTER. Brittney wrote a heartfelt message about how he felt about his time on the show:
“I’ve had the most incredible time playing Will Davenport for the last five years. I got to solve crimes with my best friend, and work with the best cast and crew I could ever ask for. I’ll miss it more than anything. But it’s time for the baton to be passed, as it once was to me, and I’m so excited for Rishi to join the Grantchester family.” Finally, Brittney is leaving GRANTCHESTER, which means the end of an era. But fans of the show will always remember him as Will Davenport.
#SUMMARY OF THE PLOT
Geordie and the new priest, Alphy Kottaram, get off to a bad start, but they are soon put together to look into the death of a local landowner. Geordie is used to working with a priest who likes to solve mysteries, so he has to get used to Alphy, who doesn’t like to play detective.
## THE ARRIVAL OF ALPHY KOTTARAM
In 1961, Grantchester was mostly a white British town. Alphy’s appearance there adds a new layer to the story. In a recent chat with TV Insider, Nair stressed how important it was to recognize the show’s racial and cultural dynamics. This part of Alphy’s personality will probably be talked about right away, which will give his interactions with the people in the town and Geordie more meaning.
Not everything about Alphy will be shown right away, but fans can expect character growth and revelations to happen slowly over time. Even though Alphy and Geordie had some problems at first, they should be able to work together in a way that shows respect and understanding. The show will probably look at how their relationship changes over time, giving us a new look at the vicar-detective bond that has been at the heart of GRANTCHESTER.

Grantchester Season 9 Episode 3 Release Date on PBS
Grantchester season 9 episode 3 premiere will air on PBS on June 30, 2024, at Sunday at 9/8c on PBS. ITV hasn’t said yet when season 9 of Grantchester will come out in the UK.
Here’s a recap of Grantchester Season 9 Episode 2:
Will Davenport (Tom Brittney), who plays Grantchester, has to make a big choice in the most recent episode. He is getting ready to tell Geordie Keating (Robson Green) that he and his family are leaving Grantchester to take a job in Newcastle. Will thinks that this new chance at a bigger church will give him a bigger chance to make a difference. A seemingly perfect Sunday with church service and lunch at the vicarage is cut short by the shocking finds of a baby left in the church and a dead man in a hotel.
The man who died was the hotel manager, Mr. Daniels. He broke his neck when he fell down the stairs. He is found dead by a maid named Sissy. He left his shoelaces undone and a ring of keys on the stairs, which makes me think there was a fight or foul play. Babies that were only a few hours old were left behind with an apology note and a hotel blanket around them.
Last night, the only woman who checked in was someone who went by the name “Mrs. Smith.” There are bloody towels in her room, which means she gave birth there. Will picks this tense time to tell Geordie that he is leaving. Geordie is shocked and hurt by Will’s reveal, so he brushes it off at first, which makes things tense between the two.
Based on their research, they know that “Mrs. Smith” called Leonard’s halfway house from the hotel. This helped them focus their search. The woman in the gray blazer with the yellow badge that Will’s stepson Ernie saw near the church is a sign. This takes the police to a nearby school for girls. Bradley says that none of her children could be involved, but the investigation quickly finds Rose Shirley as a teacher whose handwriting matches the note that was left with the baby.
Geordie finds Rose in pain at school and takes her to the hospital, where she has to face becoming a mother again. The headmistress, who is Rose’s aunt, says she’s sorry she didn’t notice that Rose was pregnant and talks about a strange man Rose talked to every Saturday. This man turns out to be Sam, the street preacher. He says he is not the father but says Rose told him she was pregnant without wanting to be.
Geordie and Will talk to the hotel maid about the man banging on Rose’s door, and she tells them she was paid to keep quiet about it. Another teacher at the school, Mr. Warne, helped Rose but says he is not the father. The police find out that the headmistress forced Rose to keep the baby and sent Warne to the hotel to find her. When the headmistress found out that Rose had gotten away, she killed Mr. Daniels by mistake during a fight.
Geordie and Will find Warne and the headmistress in the country and save the baby. There were plans for the headmistress to raise the child herself, but those plans fell through. After finding out the truth, Rose makes the choice to keep her baby, with Geordie’s support.
Will gives his last lecture, and he is so sad that Geordie isn’t there that he starts to cry. Will is getting ready to leave Grantchester with his family, and Bonnie tells him to find Geordie. Will and Geordie share a touching moment as they say goodbye. Geordie gives Will his blessing and tells him how proud he is of him.
