The highly anticipated Season 20 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy was nothing short of intense. The first episode of this season, however, had an unexpected twist: Disney boldly moved the release of a Taylor Swift movie from Friday to Thursday, putting it in direct competition with Grey’s Anatomy’s latest season.
The episode, called “A New Beginning,” starts right away with action. To save one of their own, the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial are in a tough spot. Teddy Altman, played by Kim Raver, has an infection that could kill her, so her coworkers are rallying around her to try to save her life.
In the meantime, the hospital’s new interns are in trouble for things they did recently, which could get them fired. Nick (Scott Speedman) tells the interns not to practice medicine while he’s not there, but some of them, like Simone (Alexis Floyd) and Lucas (Niko Terho), don’t listen. Because of their choice, they end up in a dangerous position where they are trapped in an ambulance driven by a self-driving system that doesn’t work right.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Episode 1 Recap
At the start of the episode, Catherine talked to Meredith about her controversial speech at the awards event. Catherine told Meredith that she had to stop her study on Alzheimer’s or her lab would lose its funding. Even though she was under a lot of stress, Meredith was determined to keep working on her groundbreaking study.
Nick had a hard time dealing with his interns after the Season 19 end because he didn’t know what to do. The interns were told that they would be reviewed and wouldn’t be able to care for patients for a while. At the same time, Simone and Lucas were in a life-or-death situation when they had to treat a patient in a self-driving car that wasn’t working right.
During a nervous moment, Teddy was rushed into surgery, and Winston didn’t follow Nick’s orders to let Mika help. Levi had to step in and save the day because Mika froze during the process. Even though there were problems, Teddy got through it in the end with the help of Winston and Levi.
As Max’s health got better, Jules and Blue talked about how they felt about each other. Even though they were clearly attracted to each other, Jules claimed that she hadn’t meant it when she told Blue she loved him. While this was going on, Jo was struggling with guilt over Sam’s death, but the support of her friends and family helped her feel better.
Bailey was told by Richard that he was tempted to drink at the award event. Richard went to an AA meeting with Bailey’s help and promised to start over. In a different scene, Meredith told Amelia that she had made more progress on her study than she had been saying. This opened the door for a new part of their work together.
A Fresh Start
At the end of the episode, Meredith gave in to Catherine’s demands, but she kept doing her study behind her back with Amelia’s help. Nick chose to leave Bailey to take care of the interns while he moved to Boston. Owen let out a sigh of relief when Teddy finally woke up. This was the start of a new adventure for the characters as they faced the challenges ahead.
The Season 20 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy made people feel a lot of different things. It set the tone for a season full of drama, twists, and turns. Fans will definitely can’t wait for the next show to find out what happens next in the story.
