Zoey and Aaron from Grown-ish were so infatuated and drunk in love at the start of Season 4 that they eloped in Mexico. As fans saw in episode 10 at the midseason mark, the two were barely speaking. After Aaron conducted his midnight session, Zoey went to see him and gave him a conciliatory kiss in the Season 4A finale. Zoey wasted little time after basking in the glow of her “makeup smash” with Aaron the next morning, going on her computer to look for the certified internship she needs to graduate. Zoey tried to lighten the mood by inviting Aaron to meet her after his class so they could drink and party the night away at Luca and Doug’s luau. Aaron, who is still not a fan of Luca, reluctantly agreed, and the couple snuggled up until it was time to get ready for the day. The search for an internship proved futile, and Zoey’s need for drunken revelry grew as she tried to distract herself from her worries. Zoey, Jazz, Ana, Nomi, and Vivek all pre-gamed by downing shots of tequila and talking about their plans for the night and beyond. Jazz was still debating whether it was time to go on with Dez or if he was all wrong for her because of his gender flexibility, while Ana and Nomi were still recovering from their arduous LSATs.
Aaron was meeting with Charlie, who is now the dean of students, to try to persuade him to grant Zoey a pass on a needed internship credit while Zoey and the group prepared to get their party on. He reasoned that two unfinished internships may technically equal one. Zoey and Luca made amends at the party, and Luca gave Zoey a job at his nascent fashion brand, which could possibly be considered an internship. When Aaron entered the party, Luca and Zoey were smiling and chatting, and he immediately felt intimidated. Zoey dashed over to Aaron to inform him that Luca had offered her a job, but Aaron didn’t want her to accept it. After then, a disappointed Zoey told Aaron that it was too late. She had already agreed to the position. When Luca snidely complimented Aaron’s sweater, Aaron became visibly enraged and punched him in the face. Aaron fled after Luca didn’t fight back, but not before giving Zoey the stinkiest of stank stares.
grown-ish, Luca punches himself in the face Kiki consoled Luca, but truly questioned why her big brother continued injecting himself into Zoey’s life, despite the fact that she had been sneaking around with Doug outside of Luca’s overprotective purview. Meanwhile, Zoey pursued Aaron, but to no avail. She even went to his house, but he wasn’t there until she noticed his surprise: Charlie had given her an internship completion certificate. That’s why he didn’t want Zoey to accept Luca’s offer of employment.
