Fans are glued to their screens for HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, especially after the most recent episode had a heart-pounding dragon battle. There’s an important question: Is King Aegon dead?

The fight starts.

When King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) finds out that his brother Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) and Ser Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) have been planning the war without him, he feels belittled. Aegon is angry and wants to attack Harrenhal instead of Rook’s Rest, but it’s too late to change his mind. Aegon decides to do something about his lack of power by joining the battle at Rook’s Rest on his dragon, Sunfyre.

The Fight at Rook’s Rest

The battle is very tough. Rhaenys, played by Eve Best, shows up with her dragon Meleys to help the Blacks. At first, it looks like Rhaenys is ahead, but Aemond and his huge dragon, Vhagar, soon join the fight. A chaotic and fiery battle breaks out when Aegon joins forces with Sunfyre.

Meleys and Sunfyre fight very hard in the sky during the battle. When Aegon sees Vhagar, he feels relieved. But his relief turns to horror when Aemond tells Vhagar to breathe fire and engulf Sunfyre and Meleys. The dragons crash to the ground at the end of the episode, leaving viewers wondering what will happen to Aegon.

What Happens to Aegon?

The episode doesn’t say for sure if Aegon is alive or dead. In Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, Aegon lives through this battle but is badly hurt and has to stay in bed for a year. Aemond takes over as Guardian of the Realm at this point.

But the TV show makes things more exciting. Aemond’s actions seem planned, which suggests he may have wanted to hurt his brother. This shows how tense their relationship is and how ambitious Aemond is.

What the Battle Meant

The Dance of Dragons, the Targaryen civil war, is shown in this episode to have very high stakes. The terrible effects of this war can be seen in the possible loss of Aegon and the deadly fighting between the Greens and the Blacks.

Besides the dragon battle, the episode also shows Daemon’s (Matt Smith) challenges at Harrenhal and Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) attempts to get help, which give the war more depth.

The episode makes it seem likely that King Aegon will have a bad end. The bloody Targaryen civil war is shown by the dramatic dragon battle, which was full of betrayal and strategy. Westeros is facing more trouble and death as the Dance of Dragons goes on.
