Take a look at how to watch and what to watch for during Monday’s Round of 16 play at UEFA’s European Championship.
The UEFA Euro Round of 16 continues on Monday with two more exciting matches as Spain takes on Croatia, followed by the reigning World Cup champs France facing off against Switzerland.
Ivan Perišić has been a standout for Croatia so far through the group stage, notching two goals and one assist through three matches played. He scored the lone goal in their 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic, then added another to put the icing on the cake in Croatia’s 3-1 victory over Scotland on their closing day of group play. Perišić is a pacy midfielder who works well with captain Luka Modrić and has plenty to offer going forward in the attack. Look for him creating chances against Spain’s excellent defense as it should make for some exciting soccer to watch.
While Kylian Mbappé has played every minute of the tournament so far, he still has yet to log a goal or assist even though he’s had eight total shots, putting three of those on the frame. Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann are the only two players to score for the French side, with Benzema notching two and Griezmann adding one of his own. That being said, it doesn’t mean Mbappé won’t have his breakout moment in this competition as we’ve all seen what the 22-year-old PSG striker can do. Expect him to rise to the challenge especially as the stakes get higher. I don’t think he’ll still be goalless by the time France is done with this tournament.

While Spain is heavily favored to beat Croatia, I still have a feeling that game could go either way, with the way Spain’s results have gone lately. Croatia defied all odds in the 2018 World Cup and made it all the way to the final, only to lose to France 4-2. One can never count them out of anything especially after a performance like that. France, on the other hand, is expected to handily defeat Switzerland and I don’t think anyone would really expect anything different. The amount of talent on their team is staggering, and Switzerland’s defense allowing five goals in three group stage games doesn’t bode well for them either. If you’re looking for the safest bet, France is the play here.
