The American limited series “The Veil” on Hulu is very exciting. Elisabeth Moss plays the British agent Imogen, who is sent on a dangerous mission to find Adilah (Yumna Marwan), a mysterious woman who is thought to be a high-ranking ISIS leader. As Imogen and Adilah travel through Europe together, their friendship grows stronger. They learn more about Adilah’s traumatic past and find out that she is actually a double agent trying to bring down ISIS. As Imogen and Adilah travel from Istanbul to Paris to London, Imogen becomes more determined to find out who Adilah really is. Along the way, they face many problems and risks, such as threats from ISIS fighters and doubts from their own coworkers.
THE VEIL EPISODE 2 RECAP
At the start of the second episode “CROSSING THE BRIDGE” of The Veil, Imogen and Adilah act more like a married couple than like strangers, though this change isn’t completely believable. An armed group, mostly Americans, comes to the refugee camp to get DNA samples from the woman who ran away. Their goal is to prove that she is the infamous, wanted killer they are looking for. They take a piece of hair from a young girl in Paris. This is likely the girl Adilah has been talking about with Imogen.
Both women are careful, even though they say they trust each other. Adilah quickly checks Imogen’s phone and writes down the number of the French manager. Imogen doesn’t think much of this because she has already broken Malik’s orders by taking Adilah to Istanbul instead of Edip Koi.
As they get closer to Istanbul, they come across a huge stop where police are looking through every car for signs of the “terrorist” (Adilah). Imogen chooses to go off the grid, leaving their car behind and throwing away her phone so that Malik and DGSE can’t track her. But they are surprised by an American spy who is trying to catch Adilah. With the help of Adilah, Imogen is able to beat him.
Max says that French intelligence can’t handle the situation, which is about a case of mistaken identity involving “Sabaine Al Kubaisi” and “Adilah El Idrissi.” He says that he took over the operation and got DNA samples from Adilah and her supposed daughter, and he wants the intelligence to get back to him right away. At the same time, Imogen goes to a belly dancing club to meet an old friend, Mr. Demir, who is looking for fake names to help them get to Paris. With some convincing and the money Adilah had saved, they get Demir to give them the papers they need.
They go to the central library while they wait for the papers, and Imogen has flashbacks that make her remember her father. Adilah finds a book about Djinns and writes about how much she admires these shape-shifters, who are sometimes thought to be between angels and devils. There are things that the women find that they have in common, like wild childhoods, tense relationships, and a love of books.
At the end of the show, the women take a bus out of Istanbul. At their first stop, Demir set up a phone for them to use to make calls. When Imogen calls Malik, he tells her that Adilah is not the “Djinn al Raqqah” they are looking for but rather a lost woman from Paris. They plan to end the operation because they have DNA evidence to back this.
She is sure, though, that Adilah is the “Djinn al Raqqah,” and she promises to show it. One of the last scenes shows a man going into the library and finding a hand-drawn plan inside Adilah’s book. This makes it seem like Adilah is not a normal woman and that the call she made wasn’t just to her daughter but also a clue for the man at the end of the show.
