Did Chrissy Chambers win the case?
The YouTuber from Atlanta eventually won a landmark civil case against her British ex-boyfriend in England. Chrissy Chambers, on the other hand, was 18 years old when she discovered she was lesbian, had recently arrived in Atlanta, and was seeing a 24-year-old British man. (The boyfriend’s identity has now been protected by a court order.) Chrissy Chambers described her ex-boyfriend as domineering, jealous, and obsessed. They decided to take a break because their relationship didn’t work out. They had one last drunken night together in September 2009 before he left for the UK.
What happened to Chrissy Chambers?
Chrissy Chambers had no idea that her ex-boyfriend had secretly recorded himself having sex with her that night. She was severely inebriated and had no recall of them having sex; she also refused to consent. Chambers found out a few years later that her ex had uploaded the film to a free porn site. In reality, he posted many movies to multiple sites between 2011 and 2012. Her face was visible in the films, but he was not, and the sicko provided her entire name in the subtitles. Chrissy Chambers filed a civil lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend in a British civil court, beginning a years-long legal battle with her ex and the English judicial system. Because the videos were uploaded in England, all legal actions had to take place under English law.
In England, it has been illegal to post sexual photos without authorization online since 2015, but the movies were published in 2011, thus criminal charges could not be brought. However, she filed a court complaint against her ex in March 2016, accusing him of breach of confidence, exploitation of private information, and harassment. She won the case in January 2018. Chambers was awarded damages and won the right to the copyright of the videos after her ex-boyfriend admitted to uploading them. Chambers declared her triumph and engagement to Bria Kam in front of the Royal Courts of Justice in London at the time.
