61st Street, a new crime drama, will soon feature drug busts gone bad, law enforcement cover-ups, and an exploration of corruption in the Chicago criminal justice system, among other things. When a narcotics bust goes bad and a police officer is killed, the show follows Moses Johnson (Tosin Cole), a promising black high school athlete who is arrested by the police on suspicion of being a gang member. Moses must rely on his lawyer Franklin Roberts (Courtney B. Vance) to defend him against vengeful cops and prosecutors.

AMC ordered a straight-to-series production of 61st Street on February 9, 2019. Peter Moffat, who also acts as an executive producer on the show, invented it. Michael B. Jordan, Alana Mayo, Hilary Salmon, J. David Shanks, and Courtney B. Vance are among the executive producers.
