But people in the community start to doubt the couple, and when Martha is blamed for being bad, Epps turns against them. They are slaves, and when they try to run away, the society catches them, blinds them, and burns them alive.
Epps thought Miles was a gift from God, but it turns out that Miles was actually a spirit or even the Devil himself. Miles makes a deal with Epps that he can stay alive as long as he hurts Black people in East Compton. When Epps agrees, the neighborhood goes up in flames.
Little Marvin, who wrote “Amazon’s Them (2021),” has said that it’s important to tell a story that shows how Black Americans are oppressed and raced in society as a whole. He has said that the magical parts of the show are made up, but they are meant to represent the horrible things that Black people have been through in real life.
