Netflix documentary called “What Jennifer Did,” directed by Jenny Popplewell goes into great depth about Jennifer Pan’s case, including why she did what she did and what happened before she attacked her parents. The movie seems to use videos of police interrogations, interviews with detectives, and chats with people close to the Pan family to put together the story. In November 2010, Huei Hann Pan’s life took a terrible turn when thieves broke into his home and attacked him and his wife.
Who Is Huei Hann Pan?
Huei Hann Pan was born and raised in Vietnam. He is from the Hoa ethnic group in Vietnam, who are also called the Hoa people. Because they are Chinese, the Hoa have often been discriminated against and persecuted in Vietnam, where they live. For Hann, the Cultural Revolution began in the 1960s, when he was still a child. People with Chinese ancestry, like the Hoa, were looked down upon and limited in Vietnam at this time because of what people thought were their ties to China.
Hann ran away because of his beliefs in 1979 and went to Canada to find a better life. That’s where he met and married Bich Ha Luong Pan. They had two kids together, Jennifer and Felix, and Hann got a safe job as a machinist at Magna International. They worked hard and were able to buy a nice house in Markham, Ontario. As a family, they lived there together. Hann was a loving dad who always pushed his kids to do their best, especially in school and in their jobs. He was proud of taking care of his family and wanted to make sure they had a good future.
What Happened to Huei Hann Pan and his wife Bich Ha Pan?
Huei Hann Pan and his wife, Bich Ha Luong Pan, were at home in Markham, Ontario, in the evening of November 8, 2010, when three people broke in. One of the attackers woke Hann up by putting a gun to his head. The thieves then forced him and his wife to go to the basement with guns. Hann saw his wife being held at gunpoint in the basement as well. He was shocked to see that one of the attackers seemed to know his daughter Jennifer. He saw one of the attackers shoot his wife in the head before he could figure out what was going on. Then he shot him and the bullet went in near his right eye and out near his jaw.
Hann was seriously hurt in the attack, but he lived and later fell into a coma. He finally woke up after having surgery and getting immediate medical care. Then he worked with the cops and gave them important clues that helped them solve the case and find the criminals. Jennifer Pan planned to kill her mother and try to kill her father to get away from the demands and pressures that her family, especially her father, put on her. Jennifer paid hitmen to kill her parents in a failed attempt to take back control of her life and relationship with her boyfriend Daniel Wong. She felt trapped by the lies she was telling about her school and personal life. She did what she did because she wanted to be independent, but it turned out badly.
Where Is Huei Hann Pan Now?
Huei Hann Pan continued to live in Canada, especially in the Greater Toronto Area, after the terrible attack in 2010. The attack had a huge effect on his life. It killed his beloved wife Bich Ha Luong Pan and left him with mental and physical scars. Hann had to go through a lot of medical care, like surgery and intensive care, to get better after the attack. Hann was very strong despite the pain he went through. He worked with the police and gave them important information that helped them catch and convict the people who did the attack.
Since then, Hann has kept a low profile and decided to live a quiet life away from the press and the public eye. After something so terrible happened, he has been focusing on getting his life back on track and getting back to normal. As Hann gets used to life without his wife by his side, his family and friends have been there for him. The funeral for Bich Ha Pan took place at the Ogden Chapel in Scarborough on November 15, 2010. As is traditional in Vietnam, the burial came after a service for Bich Ha’s father. This is because older family members are buried first. Then, on November 19, 2010, Bich Ha was buried. Because he was hurt in the attack, her husband Huei Hann Pan couldn’t go to the funeral.
