Joe Pickett looks into his past to find answers while seeking support from his wife. But he runs into obstacles along the road. Vern, a prisoner, demands that Joe obtain his early release in exchange for information about the wolf pack. Joe first balks with Vern’s requests because of the harm Vern inflicted on Marybeth (played by Julianna Guill). Joe comes to the conclusion that he needs to put his pride aside and help Vern after speaking with Marybeth.
Joe sees Arlen Scarlett, who is the lone survivor shown in a case-related photo. Joe is the target of Arlen’s hostility, and he even draws a gun. He cautions Joe to keep an eye on him. In the end, Vern tells a tale of a young girl from the reserve who claimed that a bunch of hunters had drugged and raped her. The deputy was powerless to intervene because it came down to her word against the hunters’. While studying the wolf group image, Marybeth discovers something significant. A pink backpack catches her eye, and she thinks that Marissa might have been at the camp.
Joe visits a school to have a conversation about Shenandoah, the young woman who implicated the hunters, with a teacher. He learns that Shannon Moore, Klamath MooreKlamath Moore (Aaron Dean Eisenberg)‘s wife, is Shenandoah in reality. Joe now has a better understanding of why Klamath is in Saddlestring. Together with Sheriff Barnum, Joe comes up with a scheme to use Nate Romanowski (played by Mustafa Speaks) as bait to get Klamath to pursue Randy. The strategy fails, and Klamath manages to flee on foot. Joe is unclear about what to do, and Nate is unable to see what is happening as a frantic chase ensues.
