As NBC’s La Brea ended the first half of its second season on Tuesday, the Harris family left 1988 behind them after outwitting Lazarus guards at the Hollywood sign sinkhole. Sam and Riley joined the Harrises in jumping back to 10,000 B.C., aiming to return in 2022. Before jumping, Gavin saw a vision. After the midseason finale episode, “1988,” which saw Gavin (Eoin Macken) meet with individuals from his past as well as the family he’s established along the way, La Brea is leaving viewers with quite a cliffhanger, or rather, a sinkhole of questions. La Brea Season 2 Episode 7 Recap: Will Eve die?
Gavin (Jonno Roberts) is reunited with his son Josh (Jack Martin) along with Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) and Eve Harris (Natalie Zea), who venture into the future to locate him, after using the assistance of his father James (Jonno Roberts) to travel to 1988. The trip also puts Gavin and his birth mother Caroline on the path to a reunion with the Harris family (Melissa Neal). Caroline tells Gavin that in order to complete the task to stop new sinkholes from emerging, he’ll have to use his handprint, thinking that they could be in the clear to settle down in this more contemporary era. What’s the issue with that? Unless they choose to accompany him, he will have to return to 10,000 B.C. without the family he has managed to reconnect.
In the end, they do choose to join Gavin, but doing so means leaving behind Levi (Nicholas Gonzalez), with whom he still has issues. Not to add, right before Gavin and his family makes a significant jump both literally and metaphorically, a troubling vision causes alarm. Eve, Gavin, Caroline, and the others dive into the crevasse. Gavin sees Eve perishing in a dream. He assures her it’s nothing while lying. Everyone jumps into the the hole. In another scene from the season finale, Ty defeated Taamet in a “fight to the death” (or submit), but he was not aware that Scott had persuaded the leader of the Exiles to forfeit the battle in exchange for being covertly released. Ty then recommended to Paara that they be married. Oh, and Lucas got kissed by Veronica after being healed by Taamet’s enigmatic potion.
Is it possible that Natalie Zea’s character, Eve, may be written off of the show during this season?
What we do know is that only a few moments before Gavin and his family dove into the pit, he saw a vision of Eve with blood dripping down her head. It appeared to be in a really bad way, and it is obvious that the character is going to be troubled by this for a good while. When Eve questioned him about whether or not he had a vision, he blatantly lied to her about the matter. (Given that he makes a rather distinguishable face in such circumstances, we are certain that she is going to have some significant concerns of her own about this for the foreseeable future.) What this vision tells us is that in the future, Gavin may become much more anxious than he already is about ensuring that Eve is safe and that she is in a situation in which nothing awful can happen to her. The underlying difficulty with this idea is, of course, the undeniable truth that, regardless of when it is taking place, we live in a perilous environment. There is a chance that she may suffer an unfavorable event at virtually any point in time.
