Lana Del Rey is officially embracing the twang. After months of hints and sonic breadcrumbs, the singer has announced her 10th studio album titled “THE RIGHT PERSON WILL STAY”, set for release on May 21, 2025. It marks a big turn in her musical journey—one that’s leaning heavily into country sounds, though with her own Lana-style twist.
Her shift toward country has been a long time coming. Back in 2024, Lana teased an album called Lasso during the Billboard and NMPA Songwriter Awards, declaring, “We’re going country. It’s happening.” She also revealed that long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff had been joining her in the studio across places like Muscle Shoals, Nashville, and Mississippi. Fans expected Lasso to drop in September 2024—but plans changed.
Instead, Lana surprised everyone in November 2024 by scrapping Lasso and announcing” The Right Person Will Stay” as her next official project. She described it as a collection of 13 songs, created alongside producers and collaborators like Luke Laird, Drew Erickson, Dean Reid, Jack Antonoff, and Zach Dawes.
On April 11, Lana gave fans the first real taste of the album with the release of “Henry, Come On.” The single’s artwork, featuring Lana in a white lace dress, looks like a soft bridal portrait—fitting for the singer, who recently tied the knot with Jeremy Dufrene, a gator boat captain. The song blends delicate harp notes, warm country guitar, and an emotional build reminiscent of something like Shallow, giving it a cinematic Southern sound.
This isn’t the first time Lana has flirted with country music. In the lead-up to Lasso, she covered several classics, including “Stand by Your Man,” “Unchained Melody,” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Whether any of those covers will appear on The Right Person Will Stay is still unclear. Only Lana and Jack know what made the final cut.
She’ll perform at Stagecoach Festival on April 25, her first major show after releasing the single. It will kick off her summer tour across the United Kingdom and Ireland, giving fans a live preview of her country-leaning sound.
In a conversation with Vogue Italia, Lana hinted that her new project may go even deeper than country, calling it more “Southern gothic” than originally planned. “The energy of the music was meant to reflect my new life,” she explained, “but now I’m not so sure. I might turn it into something more Southern gothic, like it was meant to be from the start.”
From hip-hop-influenced folk to romantic Americana, and now to a sound she describes as country or Southern gothic, Lana Del Rey continues to evolve. With The Right Person Will Stay, she seems ready to write another chapter—this time with steel guitars, wedding veils, and Southern soul.
