Law and Order SVU Season 24 Episode 14 Recap

Fin’s recent win of the Harlem Heart Award is celebrated at the opening of the episode by everyone’s favorite characters. Captain Benson proposes a toast to her old friend and coworker at SVU. Fin grew up in Harlem, where, at the age of six, he saw the brutal death of his own mother. And Benson went on. Fin overcame his own suffering and became a police officer in order to aid others in doing the same. He initially joined the drugs unit, but it turned out that SVU could make better use of his skills. Fin had a good time at the party and drinks with his fellow SVU cast members. After a night of drinking, Benson offers to bring an inebriated Fin home, and when Fin turns on the light to relax, he is shocked to see a man seated in a chair with a gun aimed at him. Ivan “Dutch” Hernandez, the man Fin caught in his early years as a cop, is the man who pulled the trigger. Dutch, still holding Fin at gunpoint, explains that he arrested Fin on drug charges and that Fin’s life has been a living hell ever since Dutch sent him to prison. Dutch confesses he is determined to find the cop who sent him behind because he found out that the officer now worked with special victims.

While in jail, Dutch tells Fin that a corrections officer let a rapist into his cell. A man sexually attacked him and then branded an “H” on Dutch’s breast as a signal to others. Dutch was subjected to several group rapes throughout his incarceration because of the branding. Fin stops Dutch from narrating the sad story by asking if the rifle was loaded. When Dutch confesses it’s not, Fin offers to lend a hand in his search for long-awaited justice. Fin rallies the SVU team to track down the assault’s mastermind officer. Fin and Det Bruno go to the house of Dutch, the now-Captain of the prisons department, to thank him for agreeing to testify. His wife gets defensively hostile as they expose their knowledge of his role in the assault, and she eventually throws them out of the house. To speed up their inquiry, Fin decides to call Benson. Benson and Fin pay a visit to the home of the newly liberated guy, but he immediately takes off when he sees them. The fact that he was tipped off by the CO’s wife, who in turn informed that guy. Dutch grows angry and says they should have shot him.

Instead of letting the attack define his life, Fin urges Dutch to find a new purpose. Afraid of himself, he urges Dutch to talk about his daughter. After some digging, Bruno discovers that guy is actually a man called Virgil Hatton. The team and Dutch make preparations to visit a club that Hatton supposedly frequents in order to acquire the necessary positive identification. Fin and Dutch had an emotional moment in the car on the way as they talk about Fin’s family and parenting. Fin advises him to try to go on with his life. Dutch struggles to locate Hatton among the bar patrons. Finally, he recognizes Hatton. When Fin goes to put Hatton in handcuffs, Dutch suddenly emerges from the police car. As Dutch’s anger boils over, Fin talks him down from his attempt to strangle Hatton. Dutch is cautioned not to let his desire for vengeance on Hatton land him back in jail. Carisi informs Benson and Fin that they have enough evidence to charge Hatton. Benson and Fin discuss the incident, and Fin reveals he feels bad for Dutch’s distress, believing he accidentally wounded him. Fin admits to meeting his daughter in the episode’s final moments. A new and refreshing bond is evident as Dutch and his daughter meet for the first time. Fin has once again demonstrated his dedication to serving the community by going above and above the call of duty to ensure the safety of Everyone.
