Lhakpa Sherpa’s Kids: Nima, Sunny, and Shiny
In the Netflix documentary “Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa,” which premieres on July 31, the only female climber of Mount Everest, Lhakpa Sherpa, shares her inspirational story. The documentary, which was directed by Lucy Walker explores her personal challenges, such as surviving an abusive marriage and raising her children, in addition to showcasing her physical accomplishments.
Lhakpa Sherpa was born in a Nepalese village. He lived in a tough area where he didn’t have many chances to go to school. That didn’t stop her from climbing, though. In 2000, she became the first Nepali woman to reach the top of Everest. Her life changed a lot when she met rock climber George Dijmarescu in a bar. Since they moved to the US together, Lhakpa continued to climb there. The abuse in the home hurt her and her kids a lot, even though they were married. They broke up in the end, and Lhakpa focused on her climbing career and her kids.
Where is Lhakpa Sherpa’s Son Nima Now?
Nima was born in Kathmandu in the late 1990s from a relationship Lhakpa had before. Nima had difficulties from a young age. Because of his father’s infidelity, Lhakpa raised him as a single parent. Nima spent most of her time living with an uncle after she moved to the United States because of problems with domestic violence in the Dijmarescu home. Even though things were hard, Nima became close to his mother and sisters. Nima is 28 years old, lives in New York, and works as a mechanic for a fleet of cars. He likes many things, such as movies and sports. His lifelong love of science has been evident in his encouragement of Lhakpa to take part in the Netflix documentary that tells her inspiring story.
Where is Lhakpa Sherpa’s Daughter Sunny Now?
Lhakpa’s older daughter Sunny Dijmarescu Sunny was born in 2002 and experienced her father’s abuse at home. She was so traumatized by this event that, in the middle of the 2010s, she testified against him in custody hearings. Sunny was further affected by her parents’ divorce and the closed-door discussions surrounding their trauma, which led to her closing off for a while. Sunny, however, started to mend and get back in touch with her mother following Lhakpa’s tenth Everest summit in May 2022. Sunny, who graduated from Conard High School in 2021 with a focus on photo-video art, is currently managing her mother’s business in addition to working as a part-time hostess at Ichiro Japanese Restaurant in West Hartford. She wants to climb mountains with her younger sister.
Where is Lhakpa Sherpa’s Daughter Shiny Now?
Unlike her siblings, Shiny, the youngest of Lhakpa’s children, had a distinct bond with her father. She was unable to overlook his abusive actions, though. At the age of ten, Shiny intervened to shield her mother from her father’s drunken outburst, which resulted in Lhakpa being admitted to the hospital and the couple’s formal divorce. Shiny, who is currently 17 years old, attends Conard High School and is close with her mother. She frequently goes hiking and climbing with Lhakpa; the two of them recently climbed Mount Washington. The Shiny and Sunny are eager to continue their mother’s climbing legacy, so the family has decided to climb Mount Everest.
