Magnum P.I. Season 5 Episode 1 Recap

Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks), whose personal relationship has taken a very sensual and passionate twist as the Hawaii reboot, relocated from CBS after four sunny seasons, start its fifth season on NBC (where the show shares a home studio). Friends Rick (Zachary Knighton), T.C. (Stephen Hill), and Katusumoto (who doesn’t have a badge) are all in on the truth they’re trying to conceal about their connection (Tim Kang). At least they have something to focus on at work; in consecutive episodes, Magnum and Higgins investigate a case involving a mystery automobile accident and another involving an overdose, the latter of which has a Baywatch-like feel because it involves them posing as lifeguards. The loss of Capt. Buck Greene, the former CO of the group of ex-military friends, serves as a central mystery (James Remar). Michael Rady joins the cast as the HPD’s newest investigator, who realizes early on that dealing with Magnum will be a major source of stress for him. Magnum P.I. Season 5 Episode 1 Recap

Both episodes pick off immediately where the last one left off, with Thomas Magnum and Juliet Higgins having just confessed their emotions to one another. As they continue to take on new clients, the duo is still trying to figure out and confirm this new development. The story keeps plowing ahead with the typical beats as they drive around in their flashy red automobile, discuss their plan of attack, and breeze through any challenges they encounter.  Rick does not currently have a place to call home, so Magnum makes the decision to extend an invitation for him to stay with him at the guest house. Their new customer wants to know what led to the relapse and overdose of his sister Carina, who had been in recovery from drug addiction. They head to the HPD in order to review Carina’s case file, but they end up running into

Det. Childs instead. Higgins asks Childs straight out for permission to view the file, and Childs grants it. The photographs taken during the autopsy demonstrate that someone else was responsible for tying the strap around Carina’s arm. Jin places an excessively high bid for the storage unit that he wants. Katsumoto tricks Magnum and Higgins into working as lifeguards so that he can spy on them. They are introduced to Cole Graham, their supervisor. Graham claims that he had decided to appoint Carina as his successor. Jin learned through a tip that the unit he purchased had previously been owned by a thief who had been sentenced to prison. T.C. is looking for the person who owns the Purple Heart that was found in the storage unit. Thomas and Juliet compile a list of potential suspects. These individuals include some of the club’s regular surfers as well as Sharon, who will now take over the position once Graham retires.

Carina’s medical examiner discovered traces of sunscreen that was not allowed to be sold in certain areas of her body, which suggests that she may have been strangled. Gordon suggests that the person who bid against Jin could have been a part of the thief’s gang. Magnum is discovered exploring the surfers’ van after being caught. The surfers try to minimize the conflict they had with Carina. Carina can be seen in the video footage saving a person who gets separated from the group of surfers. Magnum travels to the man’s home and discovers cocaine hidden in fish that are stored in a freezer that is locked. They get in touch with Childs. That day, a drop-off is scheduled to take place at the Oahu Fish Market. In exchange for the veteran’s address, Jin gives up the unit. The storage unit had already been purged by Jin. In defiance of Childs’ instructions, Thomas and Juliet end up killing the seller. Graham had a motive to kill Carina since he was involved in the scheme to smuggle drugs. The body of Captain Buck Greene (played by recurring guest star James Remar) is discovered.
