MaXXXine Pays Tribute to Kevin Turen

Who was Kevin Turen?

The acclaimed slasher-horror trilogy MAXXXINE is a direct follow-up to X, and Mia Goth plays Maxine Minx again. MAXXXINE takes place in Los Angeles in the 1980s, during the reign of terror by the Night Stalker. It’s about Maxine getting her first acting job in a real Hollywood horror movie. A killer and a private investigator hired to find her (played by Kevin Bacon) follow her around the whole movie. At the end of the movie, it is revealed that the killer is actually her father, a religious fanatic with a sick plan to fix the moral decline of the country during the “Satanic Panic” era.

An ending with the words “For Kevin” is one of the most moving parts of MAXXXINE. This is a tribute to Kevin Turen, who was very important in making the X trilogy. Turen made important contributions to the series, and his sudden death had a huge effect on the cast and crew.

Who was Kevin Turen?

Kevin Turen was a producer who had a big impact on the “X” trilogy. Turen was born in New York City in 1979 and went to Columbia University before starting his career in Hollywood. The first big movie he produced was “What Up Rockers” in 2005. He went on to make other well-known movies, like the Golden Globe-nominated “Arbitrage” in 2012. He wed Evelina in June 2012, and the couple went on to have two sons Jack and James together. Among the more than one hundred films that Turen has acquired and distributed, some of the most notable ones are The Proposition (2005), The Dead Girl (2006), and An American Crime (2007).

Turen also worked with TV and movie producer Sam Levinson for a long time. He worked on some of Levinson’s most famous projects, like Assassination Nation in 2018. Lennon and his wife Ashley, Turen, and Levinson set up Little Lamb Productions. Because of this work, Turen produced hit HBO shows like Euphoria and The Idol, as well as the movie Malcolm & Marie, which starred Zendaya from Euphoria. Malcolm & Marie was the first Hollywood movie to be fully written, produced, and filmed during the 2020 COVID lockdowns.

What happened to Kevin Turen?

Kevin Turen died in a tragic accident while MAXXXINE was being edited. His death came quickly and out of the blue. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Los Angeles County medical examiner said Turen died of a heart event caused by a combination of heart conditions. His 10-year-old son Jack was in the Tesla car with him when he had a heart attack. He was able to pull the car over to the side of the road and call 911. Turen was taken to the hospital and died there. He was 44 years old.

Kevin Turen was on the way home from a tennis tournament with his son Jack when he had a medical emergency. Edward Turen, Kevin’s father, said that taking his sons to and from tournaments was one of his favorite things to do in life. Jack had amazing mental clarity when he took off his seatbelt, sat down on the floor of the car, and used his left hand to control the brakes and accelerator while his right hand steered. Even though the Tesla was on autopilot, Jack had to steer it across three lanes to get to a safe place to stop and call for help.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Kevin Turen died of acute cardiac dysfunction and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Coronary artery disease was also listed as a factor. Unfortunately, it was too late to save him, even though emergency services got there in just three minutes. Turen’s death came about quickly and broke everyone’s hearts. His family and everyone in Hollywood were shocked.

The MAXXXINE team was deeply affected by Turen’s death on November 12, 2023. While the movie was still being edited, the creators were able to add a tribute to Turen that recognized his work on all three movies in Ti West’s X trilogy. The dedication in MAXXXINE to Kevin Turen is a heartfelt thanks for all he did for the X trilogy. His work and influence will live on in the film industry for a long time because everyone involved in the production feels it.
