For its recently announced 22nd season, NBC’s Law & Order revival is recasting several of its cast members.
Mehcad Brooks has been cast as a series regular for the 2022-23 broadcast season of Dick Wolf’s flagship procedural. Exec producers Wolf, Rick Eid, Arthur Forney, and Peter Jankowski have cast the Supergirl alum as a detective in Law & Order season 22. Brooks’ role is being kept under wraps for the time being.
Mehcad Brooks joins a cast that includes Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy, and Odelya Halevi, as well as original actor Sam Waterston, who recently signed a deal to return to the series.
The new cast will help to replace the vacuum left by Anthony Anderson’s departure from the original L&O. The Black-ish alum only signed a one-year deal to return for the rebooted 21st season of the show and decided not to renew it. Anderson resumed his role as Detective Kevin Bernard, which he played from seasons 18 to 20.
The revival debut of Law & Order, which was broadcast on February 24, 2022, had over 13 million total viewers based on linear and digital viewership. In the autumn, L&O will return for its 22nd season, opening off a three-hour block of the brand that will also include spinoffs SVU and Organized Crime. There’s no official comeback date yet.
Mortal Kombat, A Fall From Grace, and Nobody’s Fool are among Brooks’ films. Brooks portrayed Jimmy Olsen on Supergirl for six seasons.
