Netflix’s Million Dollar Secret is a high-stakes game of deception where twelve contestants live together at an exclusive retreat called The Stag. There is a wooden box in each player’s room, but only one of them holds a million pounds. The secret millionaire has to hide their identity while the others, who are called “hunter,” try to find out the truth.
The comedian Peter Serafinowicz hosts the show, which is full of challenges, betrayals, and emotional moments. One player, 35-year-old , stood out not only for her strategy but also for how kind and tough she was.
Se Young gave the game a special energy right from the start. She wasn’t just there to win; she also wanted to make friends, plan, and show that competition and kindness could live together. But as things got more tense and suspicious, her journey took a turn she wasn’t expecting.
Who is Se Young Metzroth?
With an open mind, Se Young went into Million Dollar Secret. She said she was a “nerd,” but she hoped the experience would help her make friends. A lot of the other players started planning right away to win but she focused on making real connections with the other contestants, especially Lauren Jean. Their friendship was one of the best parts of the season and Lauren called her “smarty-pants.”
But trust is easy to lose in a game where lies are common. Contestant Phil said that Se Young was being manipulative during a tense breakfast argument. The accusation went around like wildfire, and everyone in the group turned against her. Even though Lydia stood up for her, the damage was already done. Lauren, her best friend, betrayed her in a heartbreaking moment, which led to her elimination.
Se Young tried not to cry as she left, but she did so with grace. She told them, “I believe in you all,” she told them. “You’ll find the millionaire.” Not only did the game lose her, but it also lost one of its most honest players.
Life Before the Show: From Film to Video Games

Se Young’s career changes all the time just like her personality. She went to UC Santa Barbara to study Film and Media Studies after graduating from Troy High School in 2007. But things took a turn she didn’t expect when she got her first job fixing iPhones and iPads as an Apple Specialist.
As a Director’s Assistant for Park Chan-Wook, the famous director of Oldboy, she got her big break. She was very involved in the movie business; she did translations, scripts, and schedules. But she quickly became interested in video games.
She became a Project Manager at VGM (Video Game Market Research) in 2012. Because she was smart and good at leading, she was quickly promoted to Vice President of Research (2015) and then Vice President of Global Systems (2020). She is now a respected figure in gaming research and has helped shape industry strategies and trends.
Beyond Work: Dogs, Games, and Taylor Swift
Se Young cares about people outside of her job. She has fostered dogs and helped them find homes as a volunteer at the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA and Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. Pickle, her own dog, is very important to her.
Gamer at Heart
Se Young plays Stardew Valley on her Nintendo Switch and the newest RPGs for fun. Her love of gaming isn’t just for work; it’s personal. She likes board games too, which shows that her strategic mind isn’t just for screens.
Always Swiftie
She went to Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour in August 2023 and earned friendship bracelets by singing along with every song. Afterward, she said, “It was pure magic.”

Se Young married her boyfriend of a long time, Alex, in December 2017. Their relationship has been full of exciting times together. They’ve traveled, fixed up their 2024-bought five-bedroom house, and laughed over small mistakes like choosing the wrong paint color.
She’s also close with her parents; they often have dinner together and make memories. She and Alex were on The Sporkful podcast in 2018 and talked about food, life and everything else.
Where is Se Young Metzroth Now?
Se Young went back to her job as a gaming researcher after “Million Dollar Secret,” where she continued to have an impact on the field. She still takes care of dogs in need, plays video games, and loves being with Alex and Pickle.
Even though her time on the show was cut short, she made a big difference. She showed that being honest is the best way to win even when everyone is lying.
Also, who knows? She might be back for another season on Netflix. You always want more from the best players, after all.
