The brutal killing of famous hairstylist Fabio Sementilli is the main topic of the Season 47, Episode 24 of 20/20, which is called SEX, KNIVES AND VIDEOTAPE. In January 2017, he was found stabbed several times on the patio of his Woodland Hills home. At first, it looked like a break-in gone wrong. But as the police dug deeper, a dark and twisty reason came to light: betrayal, greed, and a scary murder-for-hire plot.
As the episode goes on, it shows how Fabio’s wife, Monica Sementilli, and her lover, Robert Baker, planned to kill him in cold blood so that they could get the money from his life insurance. Now that both have been found guilty and are facing life sentences in prison, all eyes are on the three children who were left behind after the tragedy: Luigi Sementilli, Fabio’s son, and Gessica and Isabella, Fabio’s daughters with Monica.
LUIGI SEMENTILLI: HONORING HIS FATHER’S LEGACY
Luigi Sementilli was born from Fabio’s previous relationship. He was close to his father and got along well with his stepmother Monica and his two half-sisters. Luigi was in Ontario, Canada for graduate school at the time of the murder. He rushed to Los Angeles when he heard the terrible news that his father had died, not knowing that Monica would soon be suspected.
Later, Luigi told the judge about Monica’s strange behavior after the murder, such as asking about the life insurance payout within days. When the truth came out and Monica was arrested, Luigi’s relationship with his half-sisters broke down. Today, Luigi keeps his father’s memory alive by loving Fabio’s Rolex watch, which stands for comfort and connection.
Academically, Luigi studied Philosophy at Brock University, where he specialized in Epistemology—the study of knowledge. He earned his Honours B.A. in Philosophy in 2016, followed by an M.A. in 2018, during which he wrote a compelling thesis on Skepticism and the Philosophy of Religion. Also known as Mad Seedling, Luigi is a music producer with over 2 million streams on major platforms.
Luigi has done very well in his career. He has been in different marketing jobs before becoming the Director of Marketing at Huron Dental Group in St. Catharines, Ontario. As he moves forward while keeping the memory of his father close, his journey shows how strong and tough he is.
THE MURDER OF FABIO SEMENTILLI: WHERE IS ROBERT LOUIS BAKER TODAY?
GESSICA SEMENTILLI: LIVING BETWEEN LOSS AND PURPOSE
Gessica Sementilli was Monica and Fabio’s oldest daughter. She was only 18 years old when her father was killed. Even though she wasn’t home when the murder happened, she was very upset as the case went on. Gessica initially defended Monica because she was sure she was innocent, even though she later found out that her mother had been in a sexual relationship with Robert Baker before the murder.
She spoke at Monica’s trial and talked about how painful it was to lose both parents, one to murder and the other to prison. Gessica, who is 26 years old now, turns her grief into something useful. She got her bachelor’s degree in Classical and Ancient Studies from UCLA and then went on to get her master’s degree at San Francisco State University. She now works as the Regional Director for WorldStrides, where she is in charge of educational travel programs.
Gessica stays out of the spotlight, but she wants to honor both of her parents and build a life based on learning, culture, and personal growth.
ISABELLA SEMENTILLI: A NEW BEGINNING IN THE STEPS OF HER FATHER
Isabella Sementilli, the youngest of the three, was only 16 years old when she found her dead father. It was a terrible experience that she would never forget. After her mother was arrested, Isabella stayed true to Monica and publicly backed her. Isabella stood by her mother even during Monica’s trial, but she knew that justice was being done, which was a painful truth.
Now that Isabella is 25, she is getting better by being creative. Isabella graduated from beauty school just a day before the lockdown, which led to a challenging year without work. She became a licensed hairstylist and started her own brand called Isabella Hair because she was interested in her father’s job. She works out of Mare Salon in West Hollywood and is known for her classy, modern hairstyles that honor her father’s legacy while making her own name in the beauty world.
Even though Monica and Fabio Sementilli’s three children have been through a lot of pain and heartbreak, they have all shown great strength by finding their own way to move forward while honoring their father.
