In an interview with TVLine, Robert Taylor who plays Jackson Gibbs, talked about how his character feels about his son. Taylor said, “Jackson wants to protect Jethro but knows he can’t really do anything about it.” “He feels bad that his son is going in a bad direction, but the only thing he can do is help him in his own way.”
What does Kyle Schmid, who plays Mike Franks, think about the relationship between the father and son? He said, “Franks is caught in the middle.” He knows why Jackson is worried, but he also thinks Gibbs has a lot of potential. Franks trusts Gibbs even when other people don’t, as this episode shows.
As a hint, co-showrunner David J. North said “We absolutely adore Robert Taylor, and his dynamic with Austin Stowell [Gibbs] is magic.” Jackson Gibbs would indeed be back in Episode 5. Jackson will play a bigger part in Gibbs’ life as the season goes on.
Gina Lucita Monreal, who co-runs the show, gave hints about how important Pedro Hernandez is to the overall plot. Pedro Hernandez is such an important part of the show’s canon that we will stick to that. For Hernandez fans, there will be times that are both satisfying and educational, Monreal said.
In Episode 3, “Bend, Don’t Break,” we learn a lot about Gibbs’s past and how he deals with loss while also trying to keep an investigation safe. This episode really shows how complicated Gibbs’ feelings are and how his relationships with other people in NCIS shape his journey.
