NCIS Season 21 Episode 5 Recap: The Plan
In this episode, McGee’s wife Delilah comes up with the idea for his family to look at their family tree online. McGee learns a shocking secret about his family tree: he has a half-sister named Lauren Redding, which he didn’t know before. McGee is shocked by what he has learned, especially when he thinks about what it means for his family.
In the meantime, NCIS has to deal with a tough case involving Special Agent Chen, one of their own, who went missing while a probe was going on. Chen’s service weapon is tied to a murder in Virginia, which makes people think he is involved. As NCIS works quickly to find Chen, they learn that his boss, Special Agent in Charge Feng Zhao, is also missing. This makes the case even more complicated.
Agent Jessica Knight’s probe gets more personal when she finds out that Zhao is her father. Knight desperately tries to get in touch with Zhao because he is afraid for his safety, but Zhao doesn’t answer. As the team tries to figure out what happened to Chen, they find out a shocking truth: Chen was part of a plan to bring a dangerous virus into the country illegally.
A Chinese food scientist named Dr. Mei Li says she stole the virus so that it couldn’t be used as a biological weapon. Mei Li runs away because NCIS is after her, which leads to a dramatic fight at a motel where she is caught. The Chinese plan is foiled when the team learns that the virus was switched with safe chicken soup by a fast-food boss who didn’t know what was going on.
As things calm down, Knight talks to her dad about his secret past, and McGee gets used to having a new brother. At the end of the show, Knight introduces her boyfriend Jimmy to her father.
NCIS S21xE05: Recap: Did Palmer and Knight Break Up?
In the most recent episode of NCIS, fans of the Palmer/Knight relationship were left wondering what would happen to their relationship when Knight’s father, Special Agent in Charge Feng Zhao, came to D.C. was there to look into the death of one of the agents he was supervising in Yokosuka.
Palmer was excited to meet Knight’s dad and brought coffee for both of them, even though her dad can’t drink milk. However, it became clear that Jess had not told her father anything about Palmer. This made things awkward and uncomfortable for Palmer.
In the end, JKnight told Palmer that she hadn’t told her dad about him because of “the plan.” She told them that “the plan” was for her to become team leader, then SAC, then Deputy Director, and finally NCIS Director. Jess thought that her relationship with Jimmy might make this plan harder to carry out, but she told him that she was content with her life at the moment.
After he solved the case of the week, Zhao told Jess that he thought she would make a great SAC for the Yokosuka office and had put her forward for the job. Jimmy was supportive when Jess told him the news, but he also made her feel like he might be ending things with her. Jess made it clear that she was content with her job and had no plans to take the raise, but Palmer’s “for now” made her feel uneasy.
Even though Dr. Palmer said that things were fine between them, the show made it seem like there might be a problem in their relationship. While it’s not clear if this will lead to a breakup, it seems likely that the show will deal with it in a subtle way instead of showing a real breakup. Fans will have to wait for more episodes to see how Jess and Jimmy’s bond grows.
