Power Book II: Ghost — Season 4, Episode 1 Recap

The much-anticipated Season 4 premiere of “POWER BOOK II: GHOST” starts with Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) and Brayden (Gianni Paolo) thinking about the usual college life they used to want while living a drug-filled life. This episode makes it clear that Tariq is heavily involved in the dangerous world that his father, Ghost, wanted him to stay away from.

SHOOTOUTS AND HIGH STAKES

There are a lot of intense shootouts at the beginning of the show. Tariq and Brayden almost die when they meet up with the Noma/Tejadas team from the end of the previous season. They come up with a bold plan to get Noma’s (Gabrielle Ryan) daughter Anya, who is in college, to help them. Their plan fails, though, because Anya’s security team gets her to safety, even though a lot of people are hurt.

Noma, who is furious, turns down Obi’s (Kyle Vincent Terry) offer to be her main man and tells him to put a $100,000 hit on both Tariq and Brayden instead. When Tariq is in immediate danger, he asks Davis MacLean (Method Man) for help, but at first, he is turned down. But when Noma goes to see MacLean in person and offers a big bribe, the lawyer tells Tariq to leave New York.

TRUE FRIENDS AND ENEMIES

Cane (Woody McClain), who was hurt in last season’s battle, gets help from Effie (Alix Lapri). Even though they are getting closer, Effie still tells Tariq about the risks that are closing in on him. Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray) and Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) plan to get Brayden’s sister Becca out of the house by kidnapping her. Because Dru is emotionally unstable, he gives up on the plan and puts his mother’s health ahead of their criminal plans.

When Brayden realizes he can’t rely on his family, he promises to be true to Tariq, just like Ghost and Tommy used to be very close. Their loyalty is put to the test when they go back to Stansfield campus to get drugs to sell and are met by enemies such as bounty hunters, Cane, Effie, Dru, and Angela’s nephew, federal agent Junior (Shane Harper).

A VIOLENT CLIMAX

Tariq kills Junior in the campus parking lot after a dramatic fight. Tariq was angry that Angela had caused his family to fail and took out his anger on Junior. In the middle of all the chaos, Tariq and Noma are able to reach a truce, which keeps them safe for now.

The nightmare of Monet

As these things happen, Monet, played by Mary J. Blige, has surgery to remove bullets from the battle. Diana feels bad about their plan to kill Monet, but Dru tells her to stick to it and even suggests that she suffocate Monet if she wakes up. While she is in a coma, Monet has scary dreams of Mecca (Daniel Sunjata), Lorenzo (Berto Colon), and Zeke (Daniel Bellomy) scolding her for what she did. When she wakes up, Diana has taken back her charge against Tariq, saying it was a mistake.

A NEW PLAYER ENTERS THE SCENE

At the end of the show, there is a confessional scene in a church where Michael Ealy plays Don Carter, a police officer who just lost his wife Denise and is looking for justice for her death. Carter meets a sad Paz (Elizabeth Rodriguez), who begs him to show that the St. Patricks had something to do with her son’s death.
