Queens Season 1 Episode 4 Recap
Episode four is a dramatic roller coaster, the Queens learn from Jeff’s death. This reality inspires a lot of relationship repair and forgiveness. Valeria regrets 20 years of feuding with Naomi after realizing Eric has always loved her. She offers Naomi flowers and praises her as a woman and musician before Jeff’s burial service. In a strange way, she also allows Naomi to tell Jojo that Eric is her father. Valeria admits to Naomi that Eric would make a great parent. Naomi has kept this secret from Jojo and Eric for 20 years, and while part of me feels she is selfish for doing so, another part tells me not to judge her. She didn’t tell Eric out of bitterness, jealousy, and rage. Jojo and Eric happen to meet paths a few times, and their spirits appear to mesh well.
There won’t be any daddy-daughter moments between Jeff and Alexis. When Brianna arrived at the burial, she attacked Alexis. Can you believe Alexis puked on Jeff? Even if her husband had flaws, she knew he was a decent man, a good father, and she loved him. She couldn’t grieve because of her bitterness of Jeff’s adultery and her responsibilities as a single mother to five kids. She needed her own space to grieve. Jill da Thrill believes the funeral drama is reminiscent of a Tyler Perry film.
This episode also features Jill’s personal problems, as she, like Jeff, is a cheater. Jill feels bad for abandoning Tina by dating Alicia, an Out magazine journalist. Alicia tries to explain to her that now that she is free and open, she is not bound by any limits. Throughout the episode, Jill struggles to avoid looking or sounding guilty. Her guilt is visible on her face. Instead of confessing, she invites Tina in. Tina, despite being Jill’s side lesbian lover and cheating on her own husband, isn’t a supporter of adultery either. Tina had her list of reasons why she already knew. She lets Jill find herself and ends their relationship gently. But is it truly amicable to leave a funeral and break up with someone?
In this episode, Valeria shows a more vulnerable side and makes choices that put others’ feelings above her own. Before the funeral, Valeria defends Jeff’s mistress, reminding the ladies that Alexis may be mourning as well. She also refuses to blame Alexis for Jeff’s infidelity. Alexis didn’t know Jeff had died, so she kept contacting his phone Valeria tells her the news, and while it may not be her place, Alexis and Brianna understanding each other is the first step to mending.
